Cases of the lambda strain of coronavirus have been confirmed in the UK. This is reported by the Express newspaper with reference to the Public Health Agency of England.

Initially, the mutation was detected in Peru, Chile, Ecuador and Argentina. This version of the coronavirus contains several mutations in the spike protein, which makes it more contagious. So far, scientists have not found out how the strain affects the severity of the disease.

Experts also listed the symptoms of the mutation: high fever, continuous cough, as well as loss or change of smell and taste.

At the end of June, a lambda strain of coronavirus was discovered in Brazil. The discovery was made during observations of the health of a patient with coronavirus who returned home after a trip to neighboring Argentina.
