1. No, but they still know where it’s going. The VPN provider isn’t adding any security to the equation. They are reducing security.

  2. They're not reducing security, you're just deciding where to put your trust. Say you used 5 public wifis this week. You've trusted 5 different site admins not to snoop on your data. Alternatively, you can pay (or selfhost) one VPN and now you're just trusting one company, whom you pay, and they claim will safely escort your data without peeking.

  3. Yes restarting a container, doesn't touch any mapped volumes/data.

  4. Pretty sure the documentation would adequately explain the difference.

  5. I actually checked the documentation prior to asking, which is why I asked. Docker's documentation is not the best and "--build" just says "Builds image before starting containers". Not particularly helpful, which is why I wanted the opinion of someone who says they use the command.

  6. If that's true here's a couple of suggestions.

  7. If the company is not doing well, would you really want to invest so much money into a car that could receive no support from the manufacturer in a few years? What about parts, replacement batteries, software updates? If the company folds, don't expect those to continue.

  8. Living in SF is amazing. Living in SF is very expensive. That’s really all there is to it. Some people can afford it, others cannot.

  9. Pros? Unaffordability, no parking, homeless on your front door, no backyard/space, no possibility of home ownership, terrible public transit. It's such a great city!

  10. U'll still need a fallback method in the event of u loss access to ur yubikey, which is Ur password and/or recovery key. However, u can setup strong password with authenticator app, and choose to use Ur passkey only at most of the time, that way u'll greatly reduce the chance or exposing Ur password, i.e. keylogger or phishing attack

  11. Not calling it "best" anything. This is a terrible photo, subject matter, everything. The photo is a permanent documentation of this person's worst moment on our planet. I have thought about it myself, and I'm not sure what to call it, but "best" of anything just feels wrong.

  12. Comcast has a list of all compatible third party modems on their site.

  13. Last drink I had with the last gal I dated was an alcoholic drink called “Choc-Tease”. Well, during that drink she told me she wanted to be exclusive and try building a future together. A few days later she had posted on FB and some fella commented on her looks. A few days after that (I lived on a busy street) she’s riding on the back of this dudes Harley. So, for the past few years I’ve been throwing empty shooter bottles in her yard. I mix it up for holidays, green on Saint Patrick’s Day, red and green for Christmas. By the time the snow melted her yard was full of them. Yes, it’s rather petty, yet so satisfying knowing I’m pissing her off on a sometimes daily basis.

  14. This might explain why you haven't dated anyone new in years.. Maybe it's time to let it go and move on?

  15. Registering yourself requires a $3500 USD application fee, and once accepted, a $4000 USD annual fee:

  16. I think you also might have confusion about CIDR if I'm understanding your numbering as displayed. CIDR essentially says I'm going to allocate XX number of IP addresses to this network (subnet). A /24 means you have 255 addresses available, starting at 0 up to 254. A /25 is half that amount, but you still use /25 for the first half, and /25 for the second half. For example: 192.168.0.0/25 and 192.168.0.128/25 are two networks set up right next to each other. It's exactly the same as 192.168.0.0 and 192.168.1.0, except you have half as many available.

  17. It was a really lame April Fools day joke. The author of the post referenced another joke post from a previous April Fools day, and that was their giveaway.

  18. You read the annoucement but didn't see the reason behind it is due to the fact that ix removes the ability to use pvc which is a standardized and recommended storage solution for kubernetes in dragonfish...

  19. Hi xstar, based on your wording, I assume you're involved with the project? If so, I'd recommend taking a look at the general consensus in this thread. ATM there are 68 comments and every single one of them is negative, warning people not to even bother with the solution, move to a different solution, or implement a workaround. Is this really what iX is okay with? The user base is alienated.

  20. Read the instructions. Some specifically say not to use Teflon tape.

  21. This is why I carry pepper gel any time I ride BART. Not just to protect myself as an able-bodied male, but if I need to intervene in a car where someone else is being harassed/threatened. I don't want to ever have to play that role and use the gel on someone, but I'm ready to if the situation arises.

  22. Think carefully before using pepper spray in a contained train car. You could gas many others in the vicinity accidentally. It would be unfortunate if you felt you were trying to help someone and instead got sued for accidentally pepper spraying random people..

  23. Nginx and Apache are configured using text config files. In one of these .conf files, is a "server" block. It will look like:

  24. How much and why do we think this will work ?

  25. What? "Not cal" does not have a no chase policy. Some cities do, but not the entire region.

  26. power line kit IMO because cable > wifi even if it's power cable.

  27. Why do you need a light bar if you made your truck less off-road capable?

  28. I saw an interview recently (I think it was KRON4) with a CHP rep. They specifically called out flashing the high beams and said it's illegal and ticketable to do so, regardless if the other driver forgot to turn on their headlights. They cited the code violation.

  29. If you use their modem, some plans offer unlimited data and sometimes that modem is no charge too.

  30. From my experience their modem is cheap trash and limits speed, also they have direct access to it which is a major privacy concern.

  31. I didn't say it was a good idea, but I think that's the reason some people might want to continue using the provided modem.

  32. Ill always recommend Herman Miller Aeron with the posturefit lumbar. New might be tough to find under 1k but second hand would be pretty easy. Look for size B based on your height and weight.

  33. I'd recommend testing the chair first before purchase. I was sold before seeing the chair based on my research online. I ditched my $300 office chair and got an Aeron size B. Now, I somewhat regret that decision. Aeron has less customization options and I just can't get it where I want it. I'm likely going to sell the Aeron soon and get something else.

  34. Why does the paperwork in the "glovebox" have a mouse cursor on it?
