Time will tell. It isn't the direction I'd have gone but I hope it turns out great. I know I'll watch it regardless because it is a big deal but if the reviews are bad I won't pay to watch it.
It's all about that level of emotional connection that you mentioned. There are plenty of games that are as good or better than the XC trilogy (full disclosure - I feel the same as you. These games are some of my favorite ever and I listen to the OSTs pretty much every work day when I'm not in meetings and watch some of the cutscenes on slower days). But it's all about whether or not they've captured your imagination and really resonated with you on a deeper level. The world(s) and characters in XC were really well developed and written (mostly).
I've had my eyes on this since it was announced because I think it might be the game that finally gets me into Soulslikes. The setting and presentation are more appealing to me.

People are gonna suggest the big hitters but I say play Bug Fables. It’s got good humor and is just a fun time without any slow bits and. It’s not that long either so you’ll get to check one off your list fairly quickly!

Everyone is sometimes a bad driver, they're sometimes a rude, inconsiderate jerk, sometimes an entitled asshole etc etc. Just yesterday I was criticising a co-worker to another co-worker because they'd taken a month to do a relatively simple task but part way through my rant I remembered I'd also taken a month to do something that should have been done in a fortnight. We're all hypocrites sometimes.

6/10 this week. Vast improvement compared to a few weeks ago when I got 2/10 but still plenty of room for improvement.
I'll be picking this up once it's patched to improve performance. Looks like a real gem.

Amazing. It's also striking how much smaller the older titles were but how much fuller the world felt.
