1. (that’s literally the entire point of this verse)

  2. sorry, can you explain? i’ve always wanted to make sense of this line but never could

  3. “fighting with him was like trying to solve a crossword / and realizing there’s no right answer”

  4. right, i realize that it’s supposed to mean “unwinnable game” or “unsolvable puzzle,” i only take issue with it bc crosswords are basically always solvable (and in the rare instance one is faulty, it would be more about something like a poorly worded clue rather than there literally being no answer.)

  5. yes! it’s a bummer that this double meaning gets lost in the poem rendition she’s doing on tour bc it’s one of my favorite parts of the song

  6. It's just a sign of our times-people pride themselves in being 'critical' when what they really are is negative and bitter. We should be the most grateful fandom to ever exist for the things that Taylor is doing... I mean, she is going above and beyond every time she does anything and tops all expectations, and yet, the fans keep raising the bar, waiting for her to trip over.

  7. it’s possible to be grateful and have critical thoughts. critical is a neutral word (as in movie critic, critical analysis) and i think people project more negativity onto the critical commentary than actually exists. i’m in awe, beyond impressed, SO happy with what she’s chosen to do with the show. still, i have minor quibbles and disappointments that i should be allowed to share. unless someone is being pissy and saying “fuck her, i don’t even want to go to the show anymore because X/Y/Z,” just let people say what they have to say.

  8. Thank you! I’m so sick of hearing folks say there are “ungrateful” because they are disappointed she didn’t do Debut at all last night.

  9. lol right? debut is in all the advertising, even has its own section on the merch website, yet isn’t included in the permanent setlist at all? it’s not even so much upsetting as it is baffling

  10. She literally has hinted being queer not only in interviews but her own lyrics?

  11. and social media where she’s done more than hinted. she hasn’t said the exact sentence “i’m bi/queer” but it’s unambiguous what she means.

  12. After hearing Davies mention they might invite the celebrity winner to the ToC, it was disappointing to see Brendan lose, since out of everyone he’s the only player realistically fit for that opportunity. Hope we get to see him play again someday. Still, great game and epic win for Patton!

  13. Brendan was super quick and confident with the answers, but it still has to be emphasised that the questions that they were asked are several levels down from a regular Jeopardy game, let along a TOC game. I think that these guys might be able to put up a fight in a regular Jeopardy game, but I honestly think that any of these three would be easily smoked in a TOC game, with no disrespect to them. TOC games are super hard. They are all very "everyday people smart", but not "trivia champion smart".

  14. Oh, definitely! It’s just that the ToC would have been the only way to see him face more difficult questions, since I think being in the celeb tournament disqualifies you from the regular game(?)

  15. everything i want to say has already been said, so i’ll just add: absolutely loved the sequel to friday’s silly intros, as well as sam’s “is she/is it..?” responses

  16. I’m cautiously optimistic. I love the strength of her new vocals, but there is a youthful innocence to her first 4 albums that make it difficult for me to put the originals down. I’m one of the few who prefers the OG Fearless to the re-recorded version, for example. Music and voice are one of those transcendental things that I think is hard to replicate exactly twice.

  17. yeah, for me some songs will be an upgrade and others will inevitably be a downgrade because of this. like, white horse suffered a lot from her weaker vocals when she first recorded it and i’m so glad we have tv now. but today was a fairytale, one of the songs that first made me fall in love with taylor, lost the youthful, wonderstruck (lol sorry) quality that resonated with me all those years ago. and the difference will only be more pronounced when self-titled tv comes around.

  18. lol anyone else notice those two seats for santa clara that aren’t buyable? they’re in c135 or c136 next an aisle seat, they were there yesterday and they still show up for me

  19. i have been to every taylor tour since 1989. i buy albums and merch. i got verified fan and presale code and was unable to get 3 tickets due to app crashing, 505 errors, spent 5 hours in the que to have them be sold out when i got in. i try again today and got in to buy tickets within an hour and then spent 45 minutes trying to add tickets to my cart where it kept saying another fan beat me to it. now it's sold out again. i'm honestly so disgusted i'm not even going to try general sake friday. this will be my first taylor tour i'm sitting out for. i don't have the energy anymore.

  20. im so sorry babe :( this is a really draining and disheartening process, and i dont blame you at all. that said, there will be chances to get tickets closer to the show, lots go up for face value in the last few days, and i have hope for you if you ever do decide to try again.

  21. the estimated service time has gone up by almost 2.5 hrs since i joined the queue and ive barely moved at all… currently sitting at 17,000th for santa clara and wondering if my supposed boost from buying merch even did anything at all 🙃

  22. It boosted you into the verified fan pre-sale, but that's it. They let too many people into the verified fan pre-sale and created a shitshow.

  23. oh man that’s it? well i guess im glad it kept me from being waitlisted but this still is torture lol

  24. so sad to see matt lose, but sam is an amazing player and it’s exciting to see him prove his mettle outside of the contained environment of the professor’s tournament. i can only hope that there will one day be a second GOAT-style tournament so we can finally see a true face-off between matt and amy.

  25. Well that definitely wasn't what I was expecting coming into this, but it was still so much fun and super entertaining. Definitely had more of a Celebrity Jeopardy feel to it, but with 4 of the best Jeopardy players instead of Mayim and 3 others.

  26. not only did he get that sweet moment, he also managed to get his response in at the very last second! loved that

  27. ngl, i got a little emotional hearing ken announce all of their new professions and realizing how much their lives have changed since their original runs. so wonderful to see them all on stage again.

  28. I hate that I can’t even do a proper post but here it is.

  29. to add, some general concert advice: if you aren’t able to get tickets initially, the best time to buy resale is right before the show. people have unexpected things come up and just care about getting rid of the ticket, not turning a profit, so prices are a lot better. search twitter for your city+taylor swift, watch the ig story of everyone you know, join fb groups, etc. and keep a flexible schedule because people will be selling down to the very minute it starts (disclaimer, i have no idea if this works with taylor specifically, but i’ve done it successfully for several big concerts)

  30. gregory is SO ridiculously autistic and it's present through the whole show, but the big thing for me is the pizza episode. like, everything about him rings true but the food issues... that's autism, baybee!

  31. im sorry but what is the censored word

  32. idk if you’re not allowed to say it on this sub or something(??) or if the censoring is just a joke but for anyone else wondering, it ends in -aylor lol

  33. Here, often. I find a lot of times on this sub people with common identity issues and worrying about Asian vs “white” culture, when they’re actually more describing general American culture

  34. it’s like how people call others “whitewashed” when they really just mean “grew up in America and influenced by American culture”

  35. I'm not from the states but I know someone that almost sleep with a 13 year old when he was 20 the thing is she was in a party with mostly people between 18 and 23 and she looked older (I saw her Instagram), like I know that a lot of people will say that is not an excuse but biology is weird and sometimes there are people that looked older when they are young (I started growing a beard at 13 and was already the tallest in my friend group so a lot of adults saw me as 18)

  36. Not making assumptions about your friend in particular, just a commentary on the prevalence of these secondhand stories: the whole “young girl deceiving an adult man by putting herself in an adult context and lying by omission about her age” is not at all common like some people like to think and is usually an excuse on the man’s part. The precocious jezebel is a sexist trope beloved by pedophiles everywhere. When girls are in those situations, it’s rarely reported anyway.

  37. No one has mentioned Kendrick Lamar—I remember how her first big profile to promote 1989 talked about how she knows all the words to Backseat Freestyle, her love for his music is what led to the Bad Blood collab.

  38. True. This level of unhingeness and worshipping over a white, rich woman is ridiculous. I love her too, her music and talent is unparalleled but let's not get lost into things and not criticize her actions. I know she didn't sell or marketed herself as some activist but she's been very vocal about things whenever she doesn't get her way I hope she has the same energy when it comes to people of minority. Like she champions herself to be a woman who takes no shit from anyone I hope she projects the same energy to things that matter too. It doesn't have to be big, grand gestures or anything but she should show it to through her actions. Also, I get that she uses her jets for security reasons and work but.. idk are we always gonna use the same excuse of "there are stalkers and crazy fans" SHE HAS EMPLOYED EXCELLENT SECURITY TEAM so that's excuse isn't always gonna work.

  39. tbh she HAS marketed herself as an activist. her outspokenness about social causes is tied directly to her image and has always had profit motives. not that she doesn’t believe in anything she says, but she’s been vocal and makes it part of her brand when she thinks it will benefit her, and has stayed silent at other times for the same reason. as much as i love her, i have to recognize that she’s basically the epitome of capitalism and along with that comes unethical behaviors and hypocrisy.

  40. It means still drinking alcohol and using marijuana even if you abstain from other types of drugs

  41. I feel like there have been quite a few clue value/difficulty mismatches recently, but knowing Pablo Neruda's home country for $800 while knowing Spain's long reigning dictator for $2000 seems especially odd unless I'm just grossly misjudging how common knowledge each of these are.

  42. yeah, the clue orders have been odd lately. yesterday’s category with song titles comes to mind, as well today’s saffron clue, which is like, trivia 101.

  43. To each their own, but I hate how all my gay asian friends are usually submissive, only adding to that stereotype.

  44. do you mean submissive or a bottom? because those are different things. and the dynamics are inherently different in gay relationships than straight relationships; not that gay people can't be problematic or fetishizers, but non asian men fetishizing asian women and wanting to dominate them cant be extricated from a history of empire, control, and gendered violence.

  45. The “Larry, I’m on DuckTales” Larry King interview with Danny Pudi where he suggests private planes as a luxury one might indulge in…which then made me think of an interview with Kieran Culkin where he keeps enthusiastically recommending a private plane service to the reporter.

  46. That's really common in Ireland. Called Irish twins. Siblings less than a year apart

  47. i’m pretty sure it’s an american term, originally used to demean irish people in the 1800s since xenophobic anglo protestants didn’t like that poor immigrants were having lots of kids

  48. Yes and No. no mostly because that lazy phrase is just “colored people” backwards. And to quote my parents “I am not colored.”

  49. i think it’s a clunky term, but i’ll take any alternative to using “non-white” or “minority” as a primary descriptor for such a large group of people. why should we be defined by what we’re not, rather than what we are? and is the fact that we’re part of a minority group inherently relevant to our collective identity and experience? people of color will be the majority soon, anyway.
