Anime may suffer a slow death one day like the way cartoons have here in America. But manga will still be around and manga tend to be better than anime, so I'm good.
Imo as an anime only, i like Stars Character and its sad to see her go but it doesn't ruin the story for me, i think manga readers just take these things too seriously when its really not that deep, was she used as plot device? maybe... is it bad writing? i don't think so, i think when it comes to literature people sometimes think a plot has bad writing when it doesn't go exactly the way they want it to...
I'm confused, what's your problem exactly? Star was introduced, fleshed out, and accomplished her goal to help the heroes. Something isn't a bad plot device because you're mad about it.

I feel like you're ignoring everything that happened in this series, did you only watch the last two episodes or something? You act like Magneto just showed up and did all this. Like he wasn't turning over a new leaf, minding his own business when someone nuked his island filled with mutants he rescued. You act like he didn't watch a child die in his arms due to those garbage humans enabling a madman.
It's subtle, he treats her a little differently than he does other women in his life. Like one example, Ichigo is easily annoyed and has lashed out at most people when they're being weird/annoying, but he never really does it to Orihime, even when she does or says something weird.
Yeah he is strong and that but I never got the feeling of him that he actually does something significant. I remember the whole squad get their ass beat in front of him while he was standing there until killing the weird Moose, like doooo something
Forgive him for actually expecting his trained soldiers to handle things without him. If they can't do their job why are they even there? Yama was focused on keeping Aizen at bay, plus he can't go all out in a fight with so many people near him

It doesn't ruin the story at all, and I adore her character as well, which is partially why I'm so salty she was written so sloppily.
