1. I wonder if the sphere people are regretting having phish after not being able to stop all pot smoking in the venue

  2. I doubt anyone cares. Probably a lot easier to clean up an odd roach or two than it is a sticky beer floor.

  3. I read that the total production cost for the visuals for the run came out to $30k per minute. Which is about $21.1 million for the 4 nights. Likewise I also read that U2's production of the visuals came out to $400k per song.

  4. So assuming that the costs are right, and the average U2 song is 4-5 minutes, seems like Phish paid roughly 1/3 of what U2 did for video. Of course, I'd bet that 90% of U2s costs came from the big production numbers (Real Thing, With or Without You, Beautiful Day), and that most of Phish's similarly came from the rendered pieces (e.g. Mike's Grove, Taste Temple, Theme from the Bottom of the Aquarium).

  5. Pretty good list. I only went to the first two, but I'd definitely move Theme up a notch. I thought it was significantly cooler than the rest of Tier 1B, and even better than YEM.

  6. If it was a recent divorce, that would make sense, but dude has been divorced for 4 years!

  7. Sure, but she doesn’t know how recently divorced he actually is. She is questioning whether he is, in fact, divorced, not when he got divorced.

  8. On top of what other dude said, Pig King isn't moveable

  9. There was a big regrowth update a few months (maybe years by now) back. Nearly everything is renewable now, you can't really extinct pig for example as the werepigs spawned by the starcaller event drop.pig skin for the huts. And every plant just grows again. But i still don't get the original question/point if this post...

  10. IMO DMB or Phish should not enter the HOF yet. Does anyone else get inducted into a hall of fame while they are still playing their sport? Rap getting into the HOF annoys me too. I wish they would get rid of the rock and roll HOF and change it to Music HOF if they are going to have different styles.

  11. Definitely not a good comparison with sports. The Rock hall requires you wait 25 years after your first album. Baseball requires you to be retired for five seasons.

  12. Beating the record label system is exactly why they won't make it in. They never made the executives millions. They sold a shit load of tickets, sold a handful of albums, and made themselves millions.

  13. Except that record labels don't vote on the hall.

  14. Except that if you saw the song you’d know they did something a lot more clever than just showing themselves on the big screen.

  15. Yeah I went to the first two for phish. They care much less than U2 about showing the band, which is why it happened maybe 2-3 times per phish show, but often at u2.

  16. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/NCAA_Men%27s_Tennis_Championship

  17. I was at a lot of those and thought Orion took the cake. Place is incredible

  18. Yeah can't wait until they build out the area around it a bit more. Between it, Ascend, and the Charleston tennis venue there have been some really great small southern venues the last few years.

  19. Not sure I agree with you - I did the Bowl, Orion, Alph, and a bunch of MSG last year and I thought it all sounded pretty great.

  20. So with that logic, and in relation to this scenario, his partner is not going to be holding serve, so you need to depend on getting breaks and not expecting to just lose the other team's serve. By stating how "you're supposed to lose the other team's serve," you're just admitting defeat.

  21. No, that's not at all it, lol. If you are playing at least at a medium high level, the vast majority of players are going to be holding serve more often than not. So yes, you are expecting to lose the other team's serve. Simply put, holds happen more often than breaks. That's just tennis - I would expect a former D3 player and current high school coach to understand that point pretty easily.

  22. I agree with your reasoning but as a 2.5 they're not going to be high level against a 4.0. The fallacy we're arguing about is over not having enough information. We don't know how good their opponents are or what their own strengths are. Like does the weaker player have a better backhand or return game.

  23. Definitely a lot of guesswork, which is why I think stronger ad side is the way to start.

  24. I’ve heard it sed that the prologs and epilogues are connected to ice and fire respectively. Is that really so?

  25. Not really, but there is a lot of it. For the most part I think the prologues are to introduce important concepts to each book/series, while the epilogues are more for one-offs that don't really fit well with the rest of the book but tell an important post-plot point.

  26. Good luck with what? I'm waiting for the book just like you are and will read it when it comes out just like you will. I'm just not delusional to expect that the act 2 setup books are going to have the same plot pacing as the act 2 resolution books.

  27. You have pretty inconsistent contact points in terms of how high / low the ball is. You want to do a better job trying to hit it from roughly the same height each time. I see a lot of variance, from your shoelaces on one, to your knees, to your shoulder.

  28. Only thing I can see is you are dropping your left arm / head a little bit, which is pulling your left shoulder down at the moment of impact. Just keeping your left arm up a small bit longer would help with that.

  29. Lol and a long sword is a single handed gladius like blade too huh?

  30. Dude read the books. ASOS Jaime III, he remarks to himself how he was forced to use two hands because they were cuffed, as opposed to his typical one handed longsword.

  31. Well just for future reference, another name for a "longsword" is literally "two handed sword" so I dono what to tell you about Jaime Lannister he's a freak of nature

  32. lol. Yeah in the books it’s more the biggest class of one hander, and then there is a bastard sword, and then shit like Ice.

  33. No offense, but "obtuse" is the pot calling the kettle black." I won't trade tit for tat, but in the letter GRRM said the Five would change the world. Victories and conquests are left for Daenerys, probably with Tyrion's help, and Jon, probably with Bran, Arya's, and Dany's help. Bran (with Tyrion?) will rule Westeros, and probably Rickon or Sansa will rule the North. GRRM needed something world-changing for Arya. In the late 1400s, the world's epochal event wasn't the end of the War of the Roses in England or even of the seven-century reconquest in Spain; it was Columbus discovering the New World. Arya's role model, Princess Nymeria, had sailed west and found a new home for her people.

  34. Dude just retire the Columbus bit. The rest of your points are largely quite good, but that one is kinda silly. If anything, it’s really inapplicable since one ocean was already crossed. Like Westeros would be the result of Columbus sailing from Essos. What you are proposing is Arya leaving California and sailing toward Japan.

  35. When Jon said that line., he was only teasing her in the context of Septa Mordane's criticism of her needlework. Needle itself was not in existence! GRRM has literally said she would survive and also hinted at it in many ways. There is considerable book foreshadowing for Arya to sail west. For one thing, Ned had told her that even crippled Bran could sail the Sunset Sea. Most pertinent:

  36. One, that's a pretty obtuse way of looking at it - just because Needle was given to Arya in Chapter 10 of AGOT, it doesn't mean that the writer of the books, GRRM, was somehow unaware of its existence when he wrote Chapter 7 of AGOT (when the foreshadowing line takes place). It doesn't matter that Arya hadn't named her sword needle yet - the perspective of fictional characters for foreshadowing is irrelevant. What matters is what the writer thinks. And here it is obvious that GRRM knew about Needle when he finalized the foreshadowing language in Chapter 7 of AGOT.

  37. Hey just out of curiosity I’m a relatively new player (about 1 year and 1 month) do you have any tips on making continental feel more comfortable? I’ve struggled to really implement it to my gameplay easily because I’m the best player at my high school so I’m the number one, and I want to preform at best in all those matches of course. I keep getting told it’s fine as I’m so young and so new but i’d still like to try to start using the grip early to no develop a bad habit. Top spin and slices came relatively easy to me but like this guy I never switch to continental so any tips you might have?

  38. No tips other than just get out there and use it. It's going to feel uncomfortable for a while because it's a somewhat funky way to hold the racket. Just hit buckets of serves, maybe take a bunch of lessons on volleys and overheads, or just hit volleys off a ball machine. It's not going to feel comfy for a while though.

  39. Huh, I don't change my grip for overheads or volleys, either. You all rotate your racquet 45 degrees before volleying?

  40. What the other guy said - it's not necessarily 100% continental, but most people use something very similar for their forehand and backhand volleys, backhand, and overhead, and really the forehand is predominantly where people change grips. The grip change is pretty automatic too, it's not like I'm thinking that I'm rotating my racket. It maybe takes 0.1 seconds.

  41. Interesting thoughts - I can see the CR parallel to LOTR as a denouement. I'm not sure that's how it will end up, but definitely a possibility given that we haven't seen CR and that would be one way to do it. I don't read the end of the post you reference as being too overt that Casterly Rock will happen in the books though - it could be GRRM trying to hide it's importance, or it could also mean that it's just not that important and may not make an appearance.

  42. I'm not sure I see that quote the same way you do. I think he's saying that their fate post-Dany wasn't settled on the show, not that GRRM had left open their arcs for interpretation. In other words, when both Jon and Tyrion were imprisoned, it wasn't clear to the viewer what would happen, and they went forward with a few different ways to take advantage of that point for the viewer. For example, Jon could always be exiled, but there are different ways that news could be given to him, just like there could be different ways Bran could offer Tyrion his handship. That doesn't mean that they entertained versions where Jon or Tyrion end up at a different point, but instead suggests that they thought of changing the story beats about how the viewer comes to understand their ending.

  43. My tip would be to learn to play the game first before you pick a main or go out of your way to tame a beefalo.

  44. I think it's just a hedge and an attempt to play both sides. Like if Trys marries Myrcella, that gives Dorne another link to the throne, especially if the Essos Targs never make it over.

  45. I think the issue with your post is you are dismissing an "end justifies the means" mentality outright without assessing what various individual's end goals actually are.

  46. I can’t emphasize this enough. First half of autumn I would just split up and explore. Ironically enough, staying together and building a base will just lead to increased early game food shortages as everything within a radius of your temporary base will be stripped bare of food and resources. Meaning that every day you’ll have to run further out to subsist.

  47. I normally only play duo so the waste comes down to only a few boards/cut stone and 2 gold. IMO worth it since I personally always prototype lantern, football helmet, hambat, beefalo saddle, piggyback all at once. I never have the materials by day 2 to do all that normally. And by the time I do have the resources, we’re usually completely split across the map.

  48. Fair, and appreciate your perspective. I play Wicker a good bit, and when I don’t a friend usually does, which makes a difference.

  49. You are a 3.0 - your serve isn't that big and your forehand isn't that big.

  50. You just need to pick certain things to work on. Like why are the rallies low quality?

  51. Dream may be a dream, but I think you are overestimating how much there is left to right, and at the same time underestimating how difficult it was to get everyone in the same spot organically, and now all of the stories are relatively aligned.

  52. Seems impossible, but he had already done it. ASoS moves at breakneck speed, with events happening really fast. So much happened that GOT needed two seasons to adapt one book. The last two books might follow the same path, moving really fast, with little room to breathe.

  53. Really? We can disagree about whether he is the GOAT, but you really can’t quibble with him being one of the greatest of all time.
