1. Honestly Thiem was more than capable of beating Djokovic then, and he was playing extremely well up until the final. Thiem always seemed like he was less affected by pressure when he was the underdog, and got nervous when he was expected to win, so I donā€™t think he wouldā€™ve played like he did against Zverev if he had been facing Djokovic. Alas, weā€™ll never see another Thiem-Djokovic match, they were amazing displays of baseline hitting, every bit as good as Alcaraz-Djokovic in my opinion

  2. There is virtually no advantage to using a one hander. You get a few extra inches of reach maybe and possibly some more whip to be a bit spinnier but thereā€™s a reason two handers are so much more common.

  3. One handed backhands actually generally produce significantly more spin than two handers, the higher racket speed and natural swing path lead to that. They also have higher power potential, although this is harder to take advantage of, but guys like Thiem, Wawrinka, and Kuerten were certainly able to leverage this into having huge backhand weapons

  4. With proper technique, yes, it has higher power potential. In order for this potential to be realized, the shot has to be set up really well, it's hard to rip a one hander if your feet aren't properly set or if the ball is not somewhere in your strike zone.

  5. Jokic just having a casual 19 15 and 8 through 3 after a relatively bad 1st half

  6. I feel he's been playing poorly, very passive and careless

  7. He really should defer to Jokic more often when he's shooting so poorly, it's like he thinks he's the best player on the team

  8. You have a horizontal swing, likely because your wrist is completely laid back 90 degrees before swinging.

  9. What do you mean by "wrist is completely laid back 90 degrees"? I'm assuming you mean my wrist is extended to 90 degrees? It's definitely not extended more than a few degrees before I swing, the only time it extends that far is when the racket lags back during the forward swing, and by the time I make contact it's somewhere between neutral and mild extension (I'm saying this based off of pausing the video at various points during my swings).

  10. ā€œ Modern forehand technique for you to where you're at.ā€

  11. late to post but as someone that hits one handed backhand, i think you should try changing your grip with your index finger base knuckle more towards bevel 1 or 8 (try googling grip bevel chart) your knuckle looks like its sitting on 2 and thats going to limit how much spin and depth you can get since youre brushing and not driving the ball and could lead to injury.

  12. Hey thanks for the reply, but Iā€™m using a strong eastern backhand grip (or something close to that), but my hand stays kinda loose on the racket until Iā€™m just about to swing, so it might look like Iā€™m using a conservative grip at first but Iā€™m definitely not. My index knuckle is firmly on the corner between bevels 1 and 8 at contact. Iā€™ve been using that same grip essentially for about 4 years and have had no issues at all with pain/injury

  13. Oh man, you use the same side of the racket for forehand and backhand? I tried that for a while, my grips were so similar, but it was just too much of a mind fuck.

  14. Yeah Iā€™ve done that with my grips basically since I started using a proper backhand grip, so itā€™s all I know. Iā€™ve experimented a little bit with having a continental grip as my base grip, and then changing as necessary, and it works fine for my backhand, but it makes my forehand feel really weird because Iā€™m so used to my left hand being kinda halfway between the two sides of the throat of the racket on my forehand preparation.

  15. If anything, 1930s USA was just as extreme right and anti semitic as Germany. Surprised they were on opposite sides.

  16. ruud has too much rafa on him that will be too much for stefs backhand

  17. Honestly Tsitsipas's backhand works pretty well against high bouncing heavy topspin shots. It struggles much more against depth and pace

  18. It kinda seems like nobody in this thread is really answering your actual question. Personally, I think it would probably be a good idea to start transitioning towards the more modern kinetic chain. It might make the timing a little bit harder at first, but I don't think it would be a massive adjustment if implemented gradually.

  19. the only part of his draw which was easy was playing cilic in the final instead of one of those three, the path there was standard for a gs final run in that era

  20. And playing Cilic in that particular tournament was far from easy. Cilic absolutely blew Federer off the court in the semifinal in a way that only happened a few times in Roger's career.

  21. turning point was beating fed 10 and 11 uso. all he needed was consistency and he let fed beat himself. that the birth of the Novak that won 23 slams after sitting on 1 slam for like 4 years

  22. If you watch the match point saves at the 2010 US Open, you will see he was absolutely not "letting Fed beat himself." He played very brave aggressive points.

  23. Heā€™s evolved his game more than any top player has, arguably ever. Forehand, serve, backhand, all improved tremendously between 2004-2012.

  24. I feel his backhand has always been technically very similar (and perfect), even when he first came onto tour. It got better with his improved stamina, movement, and overall game, but it doesn't look much different than it used to, whereas his forehand and serve technique have both changed significantly, multiple times.

  25. Convoluted build-ups are bad when the ball is coming in fast and/or you get tired.

  26. I think people really overstate how weird Medvedev's strokes are. While he admittedly does flail around weirdly after hitting shots pretty often, his stroke mechanics are all very clean and precise

  27. Should I exaggerate my split step? Because I feel like I'm split stepping already, it's just not obvious.

  28. I definitely think you should exaggerate it more. Jump just a bit higher and land with your feet just a little bit wider. You'll notice when a high level player is hitting, their split steps are almost always obvious. Having a bit firmer of a split step improves your timing, balance, and naturally keeps the intensity up.

  29. Overheads are like a serve but instead of you tossing it to the right spot, the ball is dropping down onto you from 30ft and you have to move into the right spot. If djokers bad at them it's a good sign that they are hard.

  30. With that said, the large majority of male professional players have fairly solid overheads

  31. Well the Cold War never went hot so despite the fear, it was still largely peaceful. And of course there were smaller conflicts and unrest, as well as wars in foreign lands, but that's a completely different thing than the continent being completely ravaged like it was in the world wars and Napoleonic wars

  32. You don't need to be actively high while playing to receive the benefits. THC takes weeks to leave the body. You can simply get high the night before and experience increased endurance due to increase efficiency of red blood cells carrying oxygen to your muscles the next day.

  33. Why are you guys making all this stuff up in the comments? This ā€œinformationā€ is absolute bullshit, yet you talk like youā€™re an expert

  34. I'm gonna say something crazy, but if you disregard MEP's unorthodox technique, he actually plays a very orthodox shot selection. The only difference is that he hits with a lot of slice instead of spin, but the placement is very orthodox imo. He's a great player obviously, but I would not describe him as a pusher.

  35. Yeah and he's a smart player who clearly has intention with his shots. I would only call someone a pusher if they just mindlessly hit every single shot back anywhere they can with no regard for placement or technique.

  36. dont think it should be up to her. why put players in this situation where they need to fix any injustice. there's an umpire sitting right there. any conflicts should be aimed at him.

  37. The rule is that noise from adjacent courts cannot result in a let, so the umpire did the right thing. If the point were to be replayed, it would have to be at the player who won the point's discretion. The rule is fine I think, it was just very unfortunate timing in this instance

  38. When you're hitting any tennis shot, if you make reasonably clean contact, the ball will always fly in exactly the direction your racket face is pointed at contact. This of course applies to the DTL backhand.

  39. It seems like everyone here knows it and is kinda willing to admit it, but apparently it's only a problem because it makes them look bad to moderates. Frankly pathetic, especially coming from the people who absolutely love to call their political opponents "un-American." This is some of the most blatantly unamerican shit I've ever seen

  40. How has the game changed since Wawrinka was in his prime?

  41. Depth and rally consistency on the backhand certainly never seemed to be an issue for Wawrinka throughout his career just based on the eye test, but if you have stats that contradict this I would love to see. I just donā€™t see how a player with a merely decent serve and efficient but not blazing fast movement could have his level of success at majors if he had a ā€œtotally inefficient weaknessā€ for one of his groundstrokes

  42. Like others have said itā€™s not necessarily advisable if youā€™re just playing tennis on the rec level.

  43. Also having very strong groin muscles and hamstrings to control and stop the slide without hurting yourself.

  44. I know XD but the problem with one-hander is that all the players will try to target your backhand actively

  45. If you have a good one handed backhand then it either won't get targeted, or it won't matter because you hit it well. If you have a crappy two handed backhand, it will definitely get targeted as well. The only solution is to have a solid backhand wing.

  46. I would add....closed stances only. Stay away from open stance whenĀ  things are falling apart.

  47. This is kinda silly, at any decent level there will be plenty of shots that would be completely inappropriate to hit with anything except an open stance.

  48. Dude has led three teams to the superbowl on the back of his offense despite average QB play. He even made one of those QBs an MVP. But he was beat by Mahomes and Brady in the Super Bowl so he must be trash.

  49. I think Shanahan is a great coach but Matt Ryan was producing anything but ā€œaverage QB playā€
