1. Cost of living. You could sell a dump in California and buy a nice home in Idaho.

  2. Yes but you can do that in a lot of places. Idaho has several growing major industries to support more people, obviously cost of living is a giant factor (but means less and less if there isn’t an industry to support yourself), and with the exception of the beach, Idaho has a lot of similar things to offer a transplant. Snow is the wildcard.

  3. I never said you couldn't do that other places. It's still a major factor for many people who move here.

  4. Yes agreed. You say major factor, I said giant factor. I think we’re saying the same thing.

  5. Separately, and you didn't ask, you can exclude up to $500k of gain as a married couple if you both lived there for 2 years. Since you didn't, you could exclude a prorated amount.

  6. Hey that’s a great fun fact that I haven’t heard or read anywhere. Hope it helps someone else also!

  7. That makes a lot of sense after reading it out loud. Thank you for the reply, it is very much appreciated!

  8. Well…while Gallo still has “the farm,” a lot of their wine is produced elsewhere. In a sense, it’s a return to the 1960s, when Gallo used to get ALL of the wine out of the Napa Valley Co-op, and 1/3 of all the grapes grown in Napa, Sonoma, and Mendocino — ironic, in that it was Italian Swiss Colony that produced the wine labeled “Napa-Sonoma-Mendocino.” (Or, as the commercials used to say, “Sonapa-Noma…”)

  9. I don’t know about any single brand’s sourcing, guess I was referring to their absolute giant wineries in that 30-mile radius. Gallo’s operation in Modesto is “huge” (no claim of percentage). Maybe they source elsewhere but there sure is a lot of wine produced at that single, corporate, location. Crazy how much history has been gobbled up by giants, who I think in the grand scheme of things actually really respect that history.

  10. Modesto is bottling/storage/glass manufacturing. The actual winemaking happens in Livingston, Fresno, and several smaller wineries in Napa/Sonoma/Paso/Central Coast, and of course anything they own in Washington/Oregon/outside of the US.

  11. I stand corrected on several points. I worked in a totally separate industry but learned a lot about importing fruit in giant plastic sacks that filled shipping containers. Our first trials used old/used Gallo plastic lined containers that we used to bring fruit in from Argentina and Egypt. I distinctly remember watching our ops crew try to make a plastic bail for recycling out of an old wine shipping container bladder. As the hydraulic piston compressed the giant bag (with some gallons of wine left), it eventually popped like a giant balloon. We were soaked with wine and scared shitless.

  12. TT’s every day all day. What kind of question is that, what’s wrong with you?!

  13. Not left in the cart so much but left in the car in the California summer. Kids were young, we drank almost a gallon a day. Wife and I bought 6 gallons, I forgot them in the back of the car, outside in the hot summer overnight. Noticed it in the morning and the gallons were slightly warm to the touch. I said, “let’s give the kids cereal with one of these gallons, if they get sick we toss them. If not, we all drink them.” Kids didn’t get sick (or did we) but I feel bad for gambling like that.

  14. It was Knob Creek 9, giant Costco bottle. Drove 12 hours to go to my mom’s funeral the next day, stopped at Costco because I knew I’d need something, likely a lot of something. Bought that randomly. Wife and I stayed at her folks’ house and after everyone went to bed, we snuck out (yeah, we’re in our 40’s but super conservative parents) onto the porch and shared the first glass of whiskey I ever had. And damn it was good. I know I’ve had better since then but I can’t remember having better since then.

  15. Thank you! I am annoyed it's clearly their error and won't fix it or acknowledge it's fixed, but good tip on checking the license lookup!

  16. You aren’t alone, trust me. There are 200+ others sitting on pins and needles, every single day, every ding of a new email hoping that’s it. It’s torture and just not fair to you.

  17. I feel that if you had a section labeled cost, and had the prices for the FG and PG courses in that, I wouldn’t be as skeptical about the course as I am now. You have to click on Access the School then click on each course offering to get the cost. It eventually pops up without any commitment, but getting to that point felt like my banks car buying system. No, we can’t give you the price here and now, you have to come down to the dealership to see the special bank price in person. Maybe I’m cynical, but that’s what I felt reading your site. I’m sure that there is a marketing reason for this.

  18. Hey that’s a great point and no marketing reason for it. Off the home page, there is a “

  19. I didn’t mind this question until someone at work asked me three-ish weeks ago. I’ve never given BS answers to this question. She caught me off guard and immediately tears welled up in my eyes. So fucking what if I’m an emotional man. So how am I doing? I hate that question right now.

  20. Dog doesn’t always kill the middle of a green spot. My dog makes patches that look similar to you but smaller.

  21. Thanks, maybe that’s the issue. I will pay attention to his “routine” and maybe that’s it.

  22. Ok - Very good. Can definitely go allot heavier and sooner (if not super hot) then that btw but very good.

  23. Ok interesting - so might be a fertilizer problem. The soil is volcanic ash-ish, high desert, so maybe not a lot of nutrients in it. I can see an old pumice mine from my front door. I don’t have the answer to any of the other questions since it’s been pretty short and not a lot of rain. But yes I’ve tried to keep it wet as best I can (part is on a hill and has been extra challenging). So maybe I need a soul sample sent like all others on here have said….

  24. If her eyes light up when she sees you that is a green flag to me. I only ever experienced that with two women and the second one I married.

  25. Yes, you are being unreasonable. This policy is very common in the industry. There are very good business reasons for not allowing customers to skip any leg of a flight. Google “skip lagging”.

  26. It’s standard practice for any airline to cancel flights if you miss one leg. Basic economy has the least flexibility. Going to LAX would have been better than driving 18 hours in my opinion.

  27. Totally agree but by the time we were aware of the issue, we couldn’t make it to LAX for the flight. I would have MUCH rather taken the flight.

  28. Idahoan that works in taters checking in. That’s a beaut but got nothing on the crazy taters I see all day every day. Like mind blowing ugly, huge, teeny, all of them. It’s awesome.

  29. I'd probably wait until mid-late Aug to put down seed after looking at Accuweather long range temps for Boise. Depending on your location, you might want to reach out to University of Idaho extension for tips. You could more than likely get germination now but the heat would make it tough to keep it alive. It'd be much easier later on.

  30. Great resource, thanks for posting that. Hadn’t considered the extension. Based on all the reading I’ve done plus your response, I guess I know the answer. Thank you for taking the time to reply!

  31. 100%. Our kids are checking it multiple times a day but I think we’ve got them to just stop. Putting a google camera up so kids don’t disturb mama.

  32. Stunning! We’ve had nests in the past with beautiful spotted eggs but these are solid. The few we’ve had in the past coincidentally hatched when we were out of town so never got to see babies. So much looking forward to these this year and now…invader!

  33. Levi- 3 Peaks Autoglass was fantastic for mine. Local small business.

  34. Then find a new place to live. It's not complicated. I'm not the kind to let people push me around like that. I know it's not everyone's style. You gotta do what's best for you.

  35. Not complicated? Not sure where op is but in many parts of the US, rental are in incredibly low supply. I’m not a fan of being pushed around either but in a complicated housing market, you could be talking the difference between comfortable, slum, or homeless.

  36. This thread is one of the best I’ve ever seen. Taco 100%. And for you food police, keep it up. If I posted a hot dog and said “check out my lunch sandwich” I’d expect the top comment to be two words, nothing more: hot dog.

  37. Yep exactly and even if it looks completed there may be a small corner that it thinks is unmapped.

  38. Ok guess I’ll remap it and try to make sure it’s all done. Geez. I really like this machine, just there are a few quirks that are super annoying if you don’t know how to deal with. Thanks for the answers!

  39. That is exactly how I describe our week in Costa Rica - like we were living a dream.

  40. Was a fun project. She is big into crystals and wanted a display. She sent me $50 and off I went. It’s not perfect, but she said she loves it.

  41. Dowdle is amazing artist and all of his paintings are loaded up with Easter eggs. My favorite is Noah's Ark where the camels are wearing nicotine patches. The originals go for tens of thousands of dollars. Making them all into puzzles is his thing, it's his way of making his work accessible to everyone. The original paintings are tens of thousands of dollars, he doesn't really need to do it. He uses an interesting technique called "pooling" that doesn't leave any brush marks, giving them a unique 3d cartoonlike quality.

  42. Thanks for the info, I’m about to go down a rabbit hole. You just ruined my evening for the better :)

  43. If by some quirk of fate you find yourself in Solvang California there's a gallery where you can see or even buy (if you're rich) some of his original paintings. The docent tells me that he proposed to his wife there or some such. Cute town, like a replica of a Danish village.

  44. That’s great, I have been to Solvang before as a kid. I grew up in the Monterey bay and went with my parents once. I will have to keep that in mind, would be a fun trip.
