1. All good points. Luckily, I have a bunch of thrifted items we could use so people don’t have to buy one time wear outfits. I don’t want to be wasteful or inconsiderate of peoples budget. They also don’t have to dress up.

  2. Maybe you could also make flower/ribbon crowns with your friends beforehand. I love Ren Fest but don’t like dressing up, so I’d be down for this!

  3. I think your guests and people who see your photos will find it very odd and confusing, same as if you wore a Korean hanbok. What about lehengas do you like? The colors, the beading, the two-piece? There are ways to incorporate those elements into your own dress that would not be as eyebrow-raising.

  4. because she was really nice and stayed with me through a crippling injury i might not have recovered from, was on a fruitful career path that I respected which said good things about her character, was very hardworking and determined, and she professed compatible views on marriage/kids/society. large breasts.

  5. Are you sure she isn’t having a psychotic break or something? Isn’t mid-twenties when bi-polar disorder will surface for women?

  6. It’s also one of my favorite meals from the time I was a kid. Here’s how I do it:

  7. I’m also Asian so rice isn’t something I can really give up. Tip: Make half your usual portion of rice and then mix in cauliflower rice. Also, now when I make congee, I use black/purple rice.

  8. It is really irritating to have a neighbor dog that constantly barks at you and your own dogs. I know this because my neighbor constantly leaves/lets their dog out in their yard and it’s ALWAYS barking. It really upsets my dog. Your neighbor was rude, but you’re also being a bad neighbor by allowing your dog to constantly bark.

  9. Run it by your friends. Joss Whedon (in his case, it's short for Joseph) is a screenwriter/director and there are some abuse allegations about him, and while I suspect those will fade with time, it might be a tricky name to use if that's a strong association for the people around you.

  10. Ted Bundy was a serial killer, but no one is confusing people named Theodore for him.

  11. You people are almost 40 years old. Why are gifts more important than spending time with family at this point?

  12. I knew a guy in law school who got a PhD in history of science from Stanford and eventually got fed up with the lack of job prospects, so now he’s in law school, lol.

  13. The number of parents who are fine just parking their kids in front of a tablet all day…

  14. Yes absolutely. She had her first heat and then spay date was booked. I found out she was pregnant 2 weeks before her spay date. I had her on leash supervising when it happened. She was under the porch using the bathroom and he snuck under the other side and got to her. I wasn't able to get to them as there are only very small openings to access the porch.

  15. Bee- potentially carpenter bees. Beneficial pollinator (granted they all are- so best not to kill it or let dog kill it)

  16. This is a nice sentiment when you don't live in a city where that is fhe only place they can be off leash

  17. Well then you’re opening your defenseless puppy up to being bullied by older/larger dogs. Puppies don’t need to be off leash outside.

  18. I have no advice on what you should do in this situation. However, if it helps, you're not alone at all in feeling like this. Your family, and your "village" are important to you. There's nothing wrong with that. Nor is there with being homesick.

  19. If you’re open to it, I’d recommend looking into ketamine therapy and/or microdosing shrooms. My partner, who never struggled with depression before, had a really traumatic thing happen to him which in turn caused him to become extremely depressed, anxious, harbor suicidal ideation, etc. This went on for a long time. His issues were too complex for regular therapists. He was largely resistant to prescribed therapy drugs. Then he tried ketamine and it was like a flip was switched. After doing about two “courses” of a ketamine therapy program, his depression, etc is basically gone. In between ketamine sessions he’d also microdose, which provides a great but subtle mood boost.

  20. I think law school is probably the only grad school that heavily depends on brand recognition --- top graduates of Harvard and Yale Law will get the $500,000 starting salaries at the most prestigious firms. Everyone else gets the scraps. Most residency programs don't care where you went to med school --- they mainly care about your board scores and letters of recommendation. I suppose the top graduates of Comp. Sci at MIT, Stanford, and Carnegie Mellon grad schools will get their pick of top jobs at the FAANG companies.

  21. Last time I checked, the Cravath scale does not start at $500k for new associates lol.

  22. Omnivore’s Cookbook has a very good and easy recipe for homemade chili crisp (I add crispy shallots and garlic in mine, in addition to the ginger, and make it with avocado oil; I also add like 3x the Sichuan peppers). It is way waaay better than anything you can buy in a store.

  23. Public defenders can be excellent lawyers, just as much as expensive criminal defense lawyers can be bad lawyers. If you’re a physician it’s unlikely you’d qualify for a PD anyways.

  24. On the other hand, the creases in the shoes represent that his father walked through life in those shoes. Idk, I think it’s not necessarily a bad thing that the shoes are creased.

  25. Thank you, my one point I had that made sense to me was about the size difference. If my border collie was the same weight n strength as my cane corso, she wouldn’t be seen so much as the villain if that makes sense. Since she did so much damage, she is seen very badly. However, both the dogs fought equally. One was just able to do a lot more damage. I just think that’s important to remember.

  26. This is a silly and dangerous mindset to have. Your border collie was defending itself from a bigger, more dangerous dog. Honestly, it’s irresponsible to have dogs like Canes in regular homes with other dogs/around families like this. This dog has shown that it can never ever be trusted. It doesn’t matter that it was in a fight with another dog - it was also aggressive to you and bit you and did not retreat or calm down when you told it to. Do you trust this dog around your parents? What if one of them trips over the dog while it’s sleep or accidentally steps on its paw or gets too close while it’s eating?

  27. YTA but I get it. However it’s not just your pregnancy, it is also your husbands. And if the worst happens does that mean he’s not allowed to turn to his family for support because you don’t want them knowing anything?

  28. I'm only considering private attorneys that only accept private-pay clients. I made that clear in my op.

  29. I’m sorry but the above commenter clearly does not work for private criminal defense and is probably not even an attorney. Private criminal defense attorneys 100% work with mentally disturbed people, non-wealthy people, difficult clients, will visit their clients in prison, etc. You have to be pretty indigent to qualify for a PD, so where do you think everyone else goes? If private defense attorneys only took the rich Mother Theresa clients, there wouldn’t be much work to go around. I work for a defense firm that charges high rates and has represented news headline-making clients. We still have many “average Joe” clients. Half my work right now is writing mental health diversion motions. Honestly OP, I don’t know why you’re looking at jobs with defense attorneys. Despite your experience as a paralegal, you don’t seem to grasp the role that defense attorneys play in the system. If you want to work in the criminal system go work for the prosecutor’s office or as a court clerk. Or something else altogether.
