1. The machine was fantastic, the distro not so much. Equally great christmas present for me too!

  2. I still have one, but it's 32 bit so struggling now, and a raspberry pi can do all the playing about I want to. I did immediately put another os on it when it was new, possibly fedora. I've also run through LFS on it. Can't recall how far I got.

  3. Did he lecture at Edinburgh uni?, in the early 2000s I had a flatmate who said he had an engineering lecturer that claimed to have invented some kind of offshore renewable energy gizmo that got nixed by the big energy companies and was pretty bitter about it

  4. He did work at Edinburgh uni around then. I met him in the 90s.

  5. I doubt your account is compromised. It's more likely that your account name/email address is in a spam list and the file is just being shared/approval requested with everyone in the list.

  6. If you're doing Trainspotting, let's not forget that Robert Carlyle, the sociopath beer-dropper, was also the struggling dad in Full Monty

  7. And Hamish Macbeth on telly. Amiable police constable in a sleepy highland village.

  8. Sorry Hans, not even one right letter there.

  9. People would have understood this comment in better days.

  10. Two years ago, they did a long bit about whether they had a long sleeve shirt with the sleeves cut short or a short sleeve shirt? In Widow Twanky's laundry?

  11. Oh Yeah by Yello in Ferris Beuller.(and to a slightly lesser extent Please Please Please Let Me Get What I Want, and Love Missile F1-11)

  12. Bought and paid for Suse in the mid 90s which comes on a large number of 3.5" floppy disks. Can't remember if it was 8,11 or 22?

  13. If we are adhering to OP’s criteria there might be just the two bees in that beehive.

  14. Two bees, or not two bees? That is the question.

  15. There is normally an element surrounding the fan for fan mode, and one (or two elements) at the bottom (and top) of the oven for non-fan assisted model. It seems likely that the fan elements are broken. They are normally quite easy to replace. How many oven options do you have? One of our ovens has an R (rapid) mode which switches all the elements on at the same time. If yours has this mode, I'd expect it to get up to temperature, with the fan working as well (it won't be as quick as it would have been had the fan element been working as well).

  16. Cheers bud. Not sure if we have a rapid mode, but I didn't realise there were additional elements around the fan (they're behind an easy clean plate)

  17. Day 9. Tested if my sequence contained all zeroes by checking if they summed to zero.

  18. The guy who plays Horace, one of her henchmen, in Cruella, Paul Walker Hauser. Had no idea he was American until I saw him on and American talk show.

  19. DISCUSSION: I think corn is more obviously available rather than making diagonal joins? Should diagonals be excluded?

  20. Jenny (Kelly Reilly) in Eden Lake.

  21. Not meat per se, but factory grown protein production is supposed to start next year. Google 'Solein'.

  22. Child in P2 has brought his reading book home - An Sionnach agus a' chorra-gheal.

  23. From my understanding, it’s the emphatic form, so no difference in the meaning, rather the emphasis.

  24. And they're all owned by JD Sports (I only found this out recently)

  25. Who also now own Berghaus. They are EVERYWHERE.

  26. This is roughly what I'm talking about. There's a small group of people (a very small percentage of all Arch users) who need the latest software or just love experimenting, but for everyone else, Debian would be perfectly fine. The problem I see is that Arch is recommended to everyone who wants to get into Linux, and not just those who use Arch for experiments, but also those who came there just to say “I use Arch, btw.”

  27. That's ridiculous. No SENSIBLE Arch user would recommend it for "everyone who wants to get into Linux".

  28. Those are both perfectly cromulent phrases. You should embiggen your vocabulary.

  29. I'm sorry to have caused you such... pericombobulations.

  30. Apparently we've "literally been fighting fires all week".

  31. The Witchery, particularly if you can get a seat in the downstairs courtyard/garden bit.

  32. Pretty sure The Witchery was top of the list was most overrated restaurants in Edinburgh last time it was discussed like a year ago.

  33. I'm only commenting from personal experience when it was excellent. Admittedly about 5 years ago. Expensive but worth it, and my immediate first thought 5 years later.
