1. I mean the Spartans were also gay. The Greeks were pretty gay, the Romans were at the very least extremely homoerotic, the Persians were also pretty homoerotic, I honestly think there must be some correlation here lmao.

  2. Please double check your sources and stop spreading misinformation. Greek and Roman homoeroticism is incredibly different from being simply “gay”. Aside from the sacred band of thebes, which is the outlier, homosexuality in greece and rome was in the form of pederastry, which is quite different fundamentally.

  3. I mean to you and the person you’re replying to - our modern interpretations of sexuality don’t have a direct 1:1 translation to what was acceptable or the norm in the pre-Christian world and any arguments about it without that consideration are ultimately fruitless. Active and passive as a broad message would be more applicable but even then not extensive - as any interpretation of thousands of years of societies viewed through our mere hundreds of gay awareness and later, acceptance. That tracks back to Etruscans, Akkadians and so on. Always peaks and troughs when it comes to sexualities in interpretations of older cultures. Think we’re heading into a trough currently but that’s my personal take.

  4. I understand that their interpretations are far different to ours and that is precisely my point. Homoerotic pederastry is fundamentally quite diggerent from modern homosexuality, and glorifying it is frankly quite stupid, nor are the sentiments expressed by the people above anywehrr close to historically accurate.

  5. They must have seen your comment and deleted a bunch of their history, because all I really see is a few posts regarding UT-Austin, and something about car sales (and where they've posted this exact question elsewhere)

  6. They had a few posts about taking mushrooms in the shrooms subreddit

  7. Yep, I kinda figured they purged their history after getting called out lol.

  8. Didnt completely work, you can still see that their active in

  9. Protestant christianity id the one they have a problem with, orthodox and catholic can be controlled.

  10. Protestantism christian encourages ones own i terpretation of the bible as its central tenet, thus its much harder to have a state body control their beliefs, which China wants. Catholicism and orthodox on the other hand follow an organised religious body, which China can work with depending on their level of cooperation. Furthermore, the whole Taiping rebellion shenanigans werent too favourable for protestant christianity in Cjina.

  11. United States, many island nations, most of South America, Africa, and Australia

  12. I’d view it as the greatest honor anyone can be awarded. If I was offered the Presidential Medal of Freedom or The Order of Bluey then, respectfully Mr. President, leave me alone cause you’re making me late for my flight.

  13. Why the fuck would an australian A want an american medal B from an american president?

  14. As a part of the british empire, and as a secondary combatant. India did make some contribution to the war effort, but it pales in comparison to any of the UNSC members.

  15. India sent 2.5 million soldiers to the allied cause in WW2 and around 2-3 million Indians(mostly Bengalis) died due to British-induced famine. I think India's war contribution was roughly equal to that of France from a strategic perspective, and Japan from a manpower perspective. Not to mention the reward of India's contributions to the allies was a botched partition that has lead to an initial massive refugee crisis, several wars, and now a state of MAD; I think India deserves that UNSC seat.

  16. Also on a practicalitt issue, India couldn’t even exert influence on its own immediate surroudinf states. China, in 1950 was able to defeat the United States of America in the Korean War, an impressive feat for a nation formed a year ago. The Chinese army on both sides of the communist nationalist divide were the most veteran forces in the whole world at the time, fighting non stop for 30 years in various conflicts.

  17. Despite indians being quite good at cricket, Internationally Australia takes the cake for being the cricket nation. Simply because australia has a very outsized cultural influence compared to india.

  18. I always attributed cricket to India (from the US), without knowing anything about the game nor ever having watched it.

  19. India is known for everying playing cricket, but australia is known for being good at cricket. Theres a bit of racism there, but Australia is the current champion and they had a 35 match streak. Guess it might be americancentrism, but among cricket nations india is not known for being good, just that they play a lot. Similar to china with basketball.

  20. Because it was by definition not a genocide. Genocide means the deliberate erasure of a culture or group through killing or sterilisation or dsiplacement. Mass murder doesn’t mean genocide, it has to be under specific conditions and intent to be one. The word is getting overused to simply mean mass murder which isn’t at all what it means. Not to diminish the extent of their crimes, but the Japanese were in no uncertain terms seeking to eliminate the chinese culture or any others. Quite the opposite in fact, they were just so apathetic to Chinese lives that they didn’t give a single shit about murdering and raping.

  21. My cousin lives in Auckland, New Zealand, and he said it's a 16 hour flight to California from down there. He'd only come back to visit his mom, and then he'd drop by a business he co-owns in California on his way back. I think ge just wanted to not spend 2 whole days in airports/planes in the same week.

  22. But realistically for Australian and Kiwis everywhere of relevance is like 5 hours from us anyways. We’re used to long haul. You could always do the move to Bali or Hong Kong which is relatively closer , but like the chltures quite different. To get similar culture you really only have new zealand which is a bit bad in terms of opportunities and the uks is cold and you have to live in an apartment which really isnt appealing for a lot of australians. So yeah the states are a good cjoice emigration wise

  23. The way the OOP writes the story indicates to me she is probably Canadian.* She mentioned that Tom had to leave the country as part of the deal, and then she reveals that he and Tammy have started their perfect do-over lives in the States.

  24. Just want to offer a different perspective. I found RV valuable in addition to all the past papers as I find that any repetitive practice of similar styled problems is useful

  25. Pirate IB has a cracked version of revision village. Its called revision town

  26. They lost a war against Emus... they're screwed when the Penguins come

  27. of course you don't, because you are basically russian it would be a miracle if you know some words of your language. russia colonised these territories centuries afo and completely destroyed natives culture. and of course good russian colonizers are better than bad japanese colonizers

  28. Have you seen Japanese colonisers? do you want to know what went down in Manchuria lmao. They make the belgians seem tame sometimes.

  29. you describe events that happened almost a century ago. they were horrible and disgusting, but japan is not the same as it was back then

  30. Russia isnt the same either. Its ironically far more differenr to the russian empire than japan is to the japanese empire given that u know they kept the monarchy.

  31. He’s wrong saying it isn’t toast, but you are wrong saying it’s bread before

  32. Fuck off hans you dont even speak english as a first language.

  33. Do you really think that you’ll never look back on happy Christmases with nostalgia? Never look back on a single memory of your past life with this woman and not feel a single emotion? That’s not how memories work.

  34. This mans been able to comparmentalise his emotions and shut it down for 8 years. I think he’s got it handled, even though it means turning into a robot in matters surrounding his wife.

  35. Vietnam didn't always have to be a loss, though. The US probably would have achieved victory in Nam if the president listened to the generals saying that the Tet Offensive exhausted the VC and it was almost over. Instead, he took the Tet Offensive as a sign they were still strong and chose to pull us out.

  36. The thing to keep in mind is that China and the Soviet Union were never going to let Vietnam lose. Even if it the US did everything right, the moment the status quo changed in favour of the south China would no doubt send in millions of soldiers to support Vietnam, like they did in North Korea when it became clear that they would lose without Chinese intervention. It's not a question of whether it could have been a victory, its a question of how much resources the US could have made the Soviets and Chinese bleed to achieve a communist victory.

  37. People forget how much involvement both China and the USSR had in the Vietnam war and Korean wars. The Korean war for instance is more accurately China against USA with north korea supporting.

  38. Well yeah , but the difference in power and military capability has changed exponentially in the favor of US and Allies since then.

  39. No it has not. I950s was the Allies against North Korea, a battered nation in the midst of reconstruction, and China a nation that finished fighting some of the most destructive wars in human history as a defender, leaving the country in tatters. Nowadays the political landscape will probably still be the same allies against China and North Korea. Except the United States would be practically fighting on its own as almost all of her allies with the exception of france have cut down their militaries to pitiful sizes. On the other China currently stands as the second strongest military in the world, fighting on its home turf, in a defensive war. Due to the strength of chinese infrastructure, thousands of tanks, artillery , apcs and other equipment can br moved into korea within the span of days. The United States qould have to attempt an amphibious landing against north korea, one of the most militarised countries on earth, while fighting off both the russian and chinese navies, while being bombarded by the strongest artillery force and missile force in the world, while facing off against the second largest airforce, while being on the offensive.

  40. Mersadie Oliton was an important rememberancer for Horus’s retinue

  41. I think erda probably was most important to the emperor. I mean friends since beginning of the world has to count for something

  42. DLX says:

    Isn't Ukraine known as the

  43. Ukraine has good conditions for mass agriculture. Quantity not Quality. In terms of Quality the EU will usually exceed Ukraine due to the strict consumer standards of the EU in comparison to the lackadaisical enforcement of any rules on the Ukrainian agricultural industry other than maximise profit.

  44. It is not necessarily lower in quality, it just isn't held up to the standards of EU production. This can be actual quality reasons such as pollutants or drugs, but it can also mean a whole host of other reasons. For instance, the EU might enforce bans on certain environmentally harmful pesticides, or the use of agricultural equipment to foster conservation efforts. There might be something surrounding labour rights, in which the EU has a lot of protections for their workers while Ukraine doesn't. Furthermore, the EU can restrict immigration making it so that labour is more expensive.

  45. Are EU members part of one country? Unless you say yes, it really isn't. Hungarian taxes aren't going to the EU

  46. People who carry on about relative military spending also completely ignore purchasing power. That supposed $160b in Russia goes a hell of a lot further than an equivalent amount of money in the EU.

  47. Funny how that works. A white British family, descended from William the Conqueror, a white man, and notorious for only marrying other white British royalty for over 1,000 years, isn't racially and ethnically diverse.

  48. Small nitpick, not only white british royalty. European royalty.

  49. and it was the pilots themselves who begged to go help their compatriots, not the Soviet high command or Stalin.

  50. I mean you have a few micro ones? Gibraltar, the islands. Plus our flag is still watermarked with the union jack, along with most of the pacific islanders and the kiwis.

  51. I'm not the one projecting in this thread. So many people getting brain burn from trying to add up Good Military + Ancient Society + Just So Gay.

  52. You are drawing all your information from popular myths that have spread across the internet. Yes, Homosexuality was common in greece, but all of your claims are purely wrong. Popular culture ran away with the idea of the sacred band of thebes and somehow came up with the idea that most greek units were gay. Being gay in Ancient was mainly in the form of diddling kids regardless of gender, because teenagers are seen as weak and feminine regardless of gender. The exception to that rule happens to be Thebes, of the sacred band fame. They were the only major city state to encourage openly gay relationships on an equal level, and were mocked for it by Spartans and Athenians. Yes the spartans probably also liked fucking teenage boys, but homosexuality among the army members was heavily frowned upon. No one in Ancient Greece wants to have the reputation of being a bottom, except for the Thebans.
