This is true honestly. Even if you were to cut him out of the story, William still finds out about possession from killing Charlie and thus still eventually builds the Funtimes and kills all the other kids and the story happens.

In a perfect world I do think if they did it right I would want the Mimic to be a sympathetic villain, with the main branch AI in the endoskeleton being given his own Happiest Day in a memory with David, while the Glitchtrap branch is destroyed as it’s shown to be too far gone and it’s actions too awful to really deserve to get its own happy ending at this point.
Yes, but the tree is what gives him direct control and influence. That's why Glitchtrap needs to be put in there in the first place, and why we never see Tiger Rock or Nexie anymore, or the VR Exhibit or Buddymatronics. They're corrupted, connected to the Storyteller, and were removed. Don't you think having a manifestation of a digital creature that can rip arms off would have been nice to use on the escaping Gregory? And why can't Mimic control the Pizzaplex anymore in RUIN, if he could still use his system from The Storyteller?
MoltenMCI may be the only theory in existence to have an entire in game speech explaining it, an entire novel where it literally happens, several guidebooks confirming it, in-game hints towards it in detailed stories, and be the most likely option even just by process of elimination, yet still have so much made up bullshit alternatives made because people don't like it as a narrative.

The reality is the Unwithereds don't exist because Scott + other people who write new FNaF media that may or may not be set in the duration of 1983-1987 don't want to have to worry about potential continuity errors so they just get to use the classics for everything

None of the funtimes have it though, which makes me think it just wasn’t a thing by that point. Their tech seems more sound-based than anything.
It just wouldn’t really help them. They don’t need to know who the child they’re hunting is, they just need to know that it IS a child.
Kids have different shaped faces than parents, I imagine it would help quite a bit.
We have no clue how it is that they identify children other than we know they can. Maybe it's size. Maybe they do have facial recognition.
