1. Great showing from England, good a start as any, I got a feeling this is gonna be a cup to remember, even if we don't win, looking forward to see how todays matches go too

  2. As someone who lives in America, Americans take supporting the national team more seriously, which explains the bad reception to the tweet.

  3. Refs have been instructed to count things like goal celebrations, throw in and corner time, subs etc and it all adds up

  4. Had this on one of my work monitors without sound (WFH), fully expecting it to be a boring 1-0 win to England. Pleasantly surprised. But have to remind myself, it was Iran.

  5. Who were pretty bloody unlucky not to make the r16 last time. They're a decent team. This was a very promising performance.

  6. No Thiago Silva + Neymar that game. Germany also too OP that yr, I was expecting a strong win (granted, not that strong lol)

  7. Yep, but because they didn’t agree to a second whistle (which happens in the PL) they did it during the ten second countdown to KO.

  8. You prefer watching a match when the ball isn’t in play. I wish they got more aggressive with this and tacked on 30 seconds to a minute for every ridiculous stoppage so seeing this kind of additional time should become more of the norm

  9. They mentioned that in general they are trying to do more "realistic" stoppage time and to expect larger numbers than usual. There was a left 15 min stoppage in the first 1/2. The second half there were a bucket full of goals.

  10. Apart from the bollocks VAR decisions on the Pen and the non-pen or Maguire in the first half, that was pretty much what I expected, hopefully gave the boys some strong motivation.

  11. Felt weird not concentrating in my lessons at all. Spent all my time in the lunch queue holding a laptop in one hand. Actually kinda linked it.

  12. Why would saka have to redeem himself? I mean I get it he missed a pen for the tournament, but he's long shown he's the guy for the right side.

  13. I’m just gonna say English fans are full of shit for being racist to Rashford and Saka in the Euro finals for missing penalties and now praising them for saving your asses.

  14. Just say you don’t have a fucking clue what you’re talking about, then move on with your day.

  15. Ah ye because a handful of English fans are racist you lump everyone who lives in England and supports the team as racist? Well done on...being...racist? Clap clap

  16. ahh yes, it was totally the exact same fans. My god, it's like people think a group of people have a single collective consciousness. I guess you were a trump voting racist then?

  17. I agree that those fans are assholes but social media has a way of elevating the voices of a few dumb people to make it seem like they represent a larger group. Most English were not racist to them.

  18. Classic case of a few morons on Twitter being taken to represent the opinion of millions of people. Social media has really damaged your brains.

  19. No racism is acceptable ever and anyone caught should be banned from games, but do you honestly believe England is the only country where fans have been racist? Pretty much every country has them.

  20. 99.9% of English fans were sympathetic to them. Thats like saying all white people support the KKK

  21. Shame the focus seems to be on the VAR decision, but I'm sure that will pass. I'm buzzing. Great win and not only that it was a joy to watch. Letting these players have fun and play like they do week in week out is clearly working.

  22. Yet this is the only group with all the teams in the top 20, making it the hardest group of them all...

  23. Pretty sure the situation in Iran played a role in the heavy loss. I'm glad they didn't sing the national anthem. Wish other teams who live in democratic countries had the guts to wear their armbands.

  24. Most of the players are young, so they probably don't agree with the archaic boomers who are in charge

  25. Even though Iran got beat 6-2 and I had to watch the game on mute Iran's quality of football was probably better then Qatar.

  26. Oh for sure. Qatar is a laughing stock. Disgrace that a team that's literally never qualified gets to host (human rights issues aside of course)

  27. Qatar was horrible. Looked like an amateur team. Iran could actually string some passes together and seemed better in the second half

  28. 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂

  29. How to spot people who have never watched a World Cup in their lives: They complain about the low level of some of the teams.

  30. Is there a rule in place whereby if "concussion substitute" is used then the player is ruled out for a period of time?

  31. Never mind that. Is there a rule that says you’re fired as a physio when you clear a player to carry on who, within two minutes, finds himself incapable of doing so?

  32. I don't think neither were penalty, but we brazilians are used to our refs, if the var calls them, 99% of the time they agree with what the var states, we have very good refs, but they trust too much on var, just because they called in doesn't mean it is. Claus taught the same as I in both cases, but when the var called him in the second, he conceded, if they did it in the first, he would have conceded as well.

  33. Saw a guy on Twitter with 🇮🇪🇺🇸🇮🇷🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿 in his bio. The ultimate final boss of hating England. I know he’s mad rn

  34. Jack Grealish made a promise to Manchester City fan Finlay that he would do his celebration the next time he scored a goal.

  35. The government is so fucked that 90% of us Iranian people were rooting for England, they are literally killing kids everyday and our players are pretending that nothing is happening.

  36. The Iranian captain mentioned in an interview the football team supports the anti-government protestors, which is a risky statement to make. Full respect to the team for that at least.
