I thought about this one as a suggestion, but opted out b/c I didn’t want anyone to get hurt haha. Kidding obv, but confirmed 100% the saddest song ever made.
Tried really hard to read along to the lyrics but water kept getting in the way... For real though... Thanks. I ignored all the replies for a couple days until tonight.. thanks..
Lost my mom in 2020, & absolutely sobbed over "Supermarket Flowers"!! Then he released "Visiting Hours", & sobbed again!! Both are so good & honestly made me feel better after the cry. My favorite line in "Supermarket Flowers" is "Oh I'm in pieces, it's tearing me up but I know. A heart that's broke, is a heart that's been loved." That just reminds me of my mom so much, because she had so much love for everyone, so it really hit hard when she unexpectedly passed.
Sorry for your loss. It’s hard to process and takes a very long time. What helps is talking about it and having folks be there for you. Happy to be an ear for you. I went through this in 2003. The sevendust album, animosity, saved my life. I’ll explain.
Not long after I lost my sister I discovered the first. The second she introduced me to back in the day. The others are known tearjerkers. I hope you find some solace.
So Far Away by Avenged Sevenfold and Desert Song by My Chemical Romance. Sorry for your loss. The Avenged Sevenfold song reminds me a lot of my dad who passed when I was nine.
Absolutely the entire record Eels-electroshock blues. The entire record is about his sister's death and his mother's cancer. But it ends on a more optimistic note. Absolutely essential listening for this situation.
“Disappear” by Dream Theater. The lyrics tear at my heart. My personal one is “Hello It’s Me” by Todd Rundgren. I always get this vibe of “if I only had just five minutes more…” I share your sorrows for such a profound void. Be strong.
Wings for Marie parts 1&2 by Tool. Read the lyrics while you listen. Also Horizons by puscifer. Condolences friend, hang in there and find comfort in the music.
I lost my mom 2 years ago. 10 years ago I first heard this song and I knew it would win day destroy me. Yup, it kicked my ass the first time I listened to it after her death. Still does, really.
I don't know if you're into foreign language songs but songs by amazarashi [Japanese rock] always help me cope with sadness and grief (or pretty much any negative emotion). My recommendations are:
Right after I lost my mom, I heard “Two of Us” by Louis Tomlinson at the grocery store and wondered if I was bringing my own story to the lyrics. Looked it up and he wrote it about losing his mom. Sorry for your loss.
Think of me with kindness- gentle giant Too much love will kill you - queen Are we still friends - Tyler the creator Komm Susser tod/Come, sweet death- idk who but from evangelion soundtrack
I'm sorry for your loss. I know plenty of tearjerker songs, but I take it you also want it to be more aggressive / angry? Maybe try Mutter and Mein Herz Brennt by Rammstein. Helps to know some German.
2 years ago today I lost my mom, on the way home from the hospital "Beloved" by Mumford and Sons came on the radio and crushed me. Also, first time I heard "Wrecked" by Imagine Dragons I broke down as well. Hope this helps somehow.
I'm sorry for your loss. I recorded a cover of gone away after I lost my Dad in the Covid pandemic. To be honest it's hard to find another song that his as hard as that I've does.
John Denver's cover of Let It Be, also Helpless by Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young. Those always helped get the tears flowing for me. As someone who was lucky that my mom is gonna beat breast cancer, I'm so sorry. I wish you didn't have to feel any of this.
Maybe not necessarily the genre your thinking of, but when my grandmother passed, I found “Somewhere Over the Rainbow” by Israel Kamakawiwoʻole to be extremely cathartic.
I lost my son last April, and made a playlist for the same reason. It was harder to find than I expected. Some of the songs that really helped me weren't always about loss, but because they had a line or two that resonated with me. Over time, I removed some songs that became too much. Here are some of the songs I still have on it.
Not at all similar to the song mentioned. But this got me through the deaths of two best friends and the breakup of my first marriage. It is exquisite melancholy.
The instrumental version of "Without You" by Yoshiki is amazing. It's a full piano arrangement, so it's over 17 minutes long. Very good, very cathartic.
The Trapeze Swinger by Iron & Wine This song could bring be to tears no matter how high I’m flying. Devastating and beautiful. Just thinking over the lyrics has me choked up as I type this.
Sorry for your loss! It's not quite what you were hoping in terms of style, but the album Post Traumatic by Mike Shinoda might be exactly what you're looking for
I lost my mom in November. She was my best friend and I miss her everyday, sometimes out of nowhere I have a good cry about it. Keep your chin up! You're not alone.
Good suggestions in here. A lot of heavier songs. Allow me to add a lighter one that's pretty sad & is a tear jerker: Alone Again, Naturally - by Gilbert O'Sullivan
So very sorry for your loss. When I was on my way to the hospital to sit with my mom as they turned off my dad's life support the song "If I get there before you do" by Collin Raye was playing on the radio. I had to pull over because I was crying too much to drive safely. Ten years later, I still start to cry every time I hear the beginning of that song, haven't been able to listen to it all the way through since.
Punch Brothers “Julep”. Idk if it’s like the offspring song, but this one really talks about the little moments in life, the mundane everyday things that are the real treasures in our memory.
