Inherited this 1979 YG Day-Date from my late father. Never seen this matte blue dial anywhere else, and thought I’d share it with you guys. Anything you guys can tell me about the watch or dial, would be greatly appreciated as I’m always trying to learn more about my dads vintage watch. 🙏🏻
Thanks! I think so too! I’ve been told it’s a “gorgeous reference”, particularly the blue dial. I’m new to the vintage watch & Rolex world and unfortunately don’t know much about anything when it comes to these things.
It’s an incredible watch! 1979= 18038 Bracelet Ref. 8385 weighs 68.85 grams, Contains 51.64 grams of pure gold. The link arrangements are 15 links on the '12' side and 9 links on the '6' equaling 24 with 4 removable links.
Thanks so much for your input and information about the watch. I love the blue dial! This picture doesn’t do it justice honestly. Its an indigo blue which I’ve never seen on another Day-Date. Was it or is it common practice to go into an AD and choose which dial you wanted or which bracelet and accents? Thanks again for the knowledge!

How is it so polished without a single scratch? Do Rolex polish it when you take it in for service?
It’s perfect !
