1. Ha, I worked for a music broadcaster and remember getting the note that this big band for us was now going to be behind helmets. I was like, yeah i give it 2 singles, maybe an album then they'll give up. Our Talent person told me I was going to be wrong, and I was...

  2. I always assumed they performed in helmets because they weren't attractive enough to be in the spotlight.

  3. As cool as the robot heads are , I kind of wonder what their careers would be like if they didn’t wear helmets. As far as faces go these two have a really cool look to them. Almost looking like the characters in their anime movie. What I’m trying to say is they had the right aesthetic. But I’m glad they came up with the helmets as it really created a mystic around them.

  4. More info: Daft Punk were a French electronic music duo formed in 1993 in Paris by Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo and Thomas Bangalter. They achieved popularity in the late 1990s as part of the French house movement; they also had success in the years following, combining elements of house music with funk, techno, disco, rock and synthpop. After Bangalter and Homem-Christo's indie rock band Darlin' disbanded, they began experimenting with drum machines and synthesisers. Daft Punk's debut studio album Homework was released by Virgin Records in 1997 to positive reviews, and was backed by singles "Around the World" and "Da Funk". They began wearing ornate helmets, outfits, and gloves to assume robot personas in most public appearances in 1999, and rarely granted interviews or appeared on television. -

  5. Fun fact (I Guess): they started experimenting with French House after going to a House Party. There they saw that the people going to "Concerts" like those, just enjoyed the music, no one was there to just wait for the band to play their favourite song. They came to enjoy music without judging. They really liked that and wanted to make music like that.

  6. Neat! I thought they started as a punk band but weren’t very good and a music reviewer said something like “only go see them if you like daft punk.” And the stuck with it

  7. This was my first cd. My first cassette was license to ill. Everything changed for me in 1997. Buying Home Works was a couple months before my dad died to cancer and I was sent away to a boarding school. Lost my family and friends and was all alone in a strict boarding school at fresh 16. This album is my favourite and remains my all these years later and thinking back now is kinda like a puzzle piece as to the root of where everything went off the rails for me as I try to rebuild my current life. Sigh.

  8. They're legends forever. I'm thankful for all the kick ass tunes they bestowed upon us, but so sad we won't be getting any more.

  9. I mean not to be a hipster by “Around the World” was the coolest sound id ever heard in my life up to that point.

  10. I don’t usually go for guys with longer hair then me but at the same time I’d be incredibly awkward around ether of them due to immediately being attracted to the cause like they really are very cute

  11. Thomas seems to have them on the wrong way round here: red is right. Guess it really is everyone who does that, lmao. Despite being fantastic, I still don’t get why HD-25s have the cable on the opposite side to most other headphones.

  12. FACT CHECK: Actually the group known as "Daft Punk" is really a cover for supposedly deceased rappers "Biggie" and "Tupac" After their alleged deaths they assumed the identity of Daft Punk and began performing EDM shows shortly afterwards. Idk who these random twinks are.

  13. Based on their video, I think one of them just got burned out. Maybe wanna chase some greener pastures or just relax. I don’t think they had a falling out, but after 28 years I think they’re well deserved of the retirement.

  14. I think they're just wanting to be done making music. They've been going at it for almost 30 years.

  15. They’ve been essentially done for years. Collaborating with other artists but inactive overall. So I think it was time to just officially call it off. But they were already done pretty much.

  16. Lots of replies from people talking out of their ass. Real reason is one member essentially lost his hearing :(

  17. There are only rumors. So far I’ve seen a lot of people saying Thomas has been dealing with hearing issues and some are saying Guy is going through some health problems. I’m just a guy reading other guys talking about a Guy they don’t know.. hopefully they are both healthy and happy. I already miss them so much.

  18. Their mojo was to never repeat themselfs. I guess they just wanted to end that up in pride and beauty..

  19. I dont know if it is true but, the left dude has a serious case of a sickness in which he listens to a very (english is not my primary language) disturbing ear tining. So, if that checks out, maybe the right dude might colab in some other songs (or the left dude too idk).

  20. I feel the same way about a lot of recording artists who gained fame in the 90s and into the 2000s. If you were not someone who enjoyed a certain category of music then it was probably easy to not ever hear about them especially since the internet and the way things go viral now were not the same then.

  21. I just realized something. You could post any 2 guys and tell me this. How would I ever know? Do they really exist at all? It hurts my brain.

  22. Saw them in New Frontier Holland in 1997 - they were ropey. Had a good bop to "Around the World" but if you're serious about what drives dance music they were never really anywhere near where it is at.

  23. That explains the look of the characters in the anime created for their early albums. Exact same haircuts

  24. Holy SHIT dude, the guy on my right looks nearly identical to me in high school. I zoomed in on him and showed my girlfriend the picture and she thought it was me, and she’s known me for almost 10 years.

  25. Wow, this is the first time I ever saw them helmet-less, I thought it was near impossible to find an image. I think its kinda fitting that my first time seeing this was after they split up though, Long Live Daft Punk motherfucker!

  26. Holy crap there faces this is the first time ever seeing then found out about them from the tron movie and could for some reason never find a pic of the faces lol so this is awesome

  27. So Zuckerberg and Taran who was 19 and never fucking learned how to read were Daft Punk the entire time?

  28. I'm still looking for the interview in the 90s of them at Much Music in Toronto where they wore plastic masks that had like the eyebrow lines and mouth lines and eye lines, but we're basically clear, but fucked up how you looked. It was my first visual of them and it was definitely a moment of them deciding to be faceless... If anyone has a video or screengrab, I love you. I look for it every few years.
