Hamilton is brilliant. I reread his stuff as much as Bakker. The Commonwealth saga is just epic.

Not Sci fi, but if you want world building, The Prince of Nothing trilogy and The Aspect Emperor by R. Scott Bakker. The darkest fantasy I have ever read, and the world building is amazing. I'm on my 5th read through now, and it just gets better every time.
