1. Well this government’s immigration changes have doomed an entire generation to be renters with no chance of homeownership. The ballooning debt from their carefree spending will make it harder for successive governments to spend on any programs to help families as more and more of the budget will be dedicated to servicing the national debt.

  2. Banff is already massively burdened with tourists as it stands. This would absolutely nuke the appeal of going there, it would be out of control and increasingly worse off... Despite the money coming in.

  3. If there were more people but less vehicles do you think it may feel less congested?

  4. Forced treatment is a huge ethical debate, and poses a question about medical consent. There's a reason why a lot of Indigenous and Black folks are really reluctant about visiting the doctor/hospital. Medical trauma is real and subjecting an already vulnerable population to forced treatment will just create more trauma.

  5. We are able to force youth into rehab via court order, so why not adults?

  6. No, I’m stating the broken windows theory of policing is incorrect because it is, from a data perspective.

  7. Can you outline how my argument that addicts commit crime fits the broken windows theory I’m afraid I don’t follow.

  8. https://study.com/learn/lesson/broken-window-theory.html#:~:text=The%20broken%20windows%20theory%20stems,no%20one%20is%20in%20charge

  9. lol I have a crim degree I’m aware of the theory, I just didn’t know how you were linking the theory. I’m not talking about the appearance of addicted homeless, I’m referring to the real harms that they cause. Random stabbings in our cities and on our transit systems. Open drug use on moving trains. Random property damage. Rampant petty theft.

  10. Yeah the UCP questioning science really seems to working doesn’t it?? You think all the safe injection sites being closed had any effect on what has happened to Calgary, because the current UCP is why Calgary and Alberta is here.

  11. I’m pretty sure that’s what our leaders are elected to do. And they aren’t.

  12. Excuse you, those are skilled workers you’re talking about. /s

  13. Dog you haven't been, you don't know. The whole system is fucked. Too many guys thrown into pods that don't fit them all, prisons being under supplied (eg. Not enough matresses) so you have people sleeping on the floor, they never turn the lights off. The buildings are dilapidated and lack proper heating/cooling. Programs for rehabilitation are constantly cut, they removed the ability for prisoners to earn trade tickets in prison long ago, schooling is brought back to basic grade 12, nothing more. Inmates are forced to participate in programs that sometimes have no relevance to their crime, rehabilitation or reintegration into society. Just a few examples off the cuff

  14. Damn that fucking sucks, did it make you consider not doing crime? Or did you just feel like a victim the whole time?

  15. Yo what the fuck is wrong with you? Canada should be treating their prisoners better than 3rd world countries, we should have better standards.

  16. lol please point out the 3rd world country that runs their prisons better than Canada.

  17. Wouldn't a higher incidence rate in the illicit supply be greater incentive for safe supply? How in the world did someone with journalistic integrity publish such obvious dehumanizing spin?

  18. Do the homeless junkies show people around them the respect, understanding and compassion that you are demanding from everyone else? There is already a safe supply. Methadone. Suboxone. Sublocade. Enabling and infantilizing these people does nothing but encourage the already self destructive behaviour that these people are engaged in.

  19. Do you always avoid answering questions only to ask your own geared and baited ones?

  20. Is a point of view that differs from yours automatically geared and baited?

  21. The starting premise of the title is false. And BTW these things are everywhere in Europe, no one complains about them, and especially not as much as a few loud Canadian Redditors with multiple accounts.

  22. This might come as a shock to you but we have different laws than the EU. Including a charter of rights and freedoms protecting us from being unlawfully detained. But if you like getting fucked by loblaws I’m not judging.

  23. Easily could have used pepper spray, taser, bean bag gun to stop this dude. Didn’t need to die, cops aren’t trained to deescalate mental health issues.

  24. Guarantee the raised pick-up trucks I see at Costco hasn't seen a "work site", ever.

  25. Do you always judge books by covers? Or only when it suits your confirmation bias?

  26. Why in the sweet fuck do you care about his family? Honestly

  27. The different media outlets amplifying his family’s utter bullshit should be ashamed.

  28. Awesome job destroying scientific research and evidence, muzzling scientists, and having police run people over on horseback

  29. Who gives a fuck about those things when you can’t afford to live?

  30. Who has been the leader of the country for damn near a decade sorry?

  31. ITT: Tent = "Home" (apparently)

  32. That is literally the argument that protesters make whenever there is an attempt to dismantle these camps.

  33. I wonder if it’s possible for people to live in an encampment without making a giant mess? If they (those that live there) could take an iota of responsibility and clean the place up perhaps they wouldn’t get torn down.

  34. Homeless drug addicts are renowned for their sense of responsibility.

  35. It’s a pretty fucking significant statement from the police of our country’s largest city, don’t you think?

  36. Oh okay well you’re the outlier then. Obviously people think it is.

  37. Oh that’s crazy because we refer clients all the time and they go straight into treatment upon release from jail. Maybe jail in the meantime would be good considering the laws that they’re breaking in these photos.

  38. One of our treatment centres in the city? What do you mean where?

  39. Conversely, you could just show them your receipt and carry on. Is this such a massive inconvenience?

  40. No. I worked loss prevention in the past, I’m aware of my rights and I’m fine exercising them. You do you.

  41. I was going to say that. What's the point of having jails if prosecutors don't lay charges. Judges don't give appropriate sentences. Probation boards Let them out early.

  42. Do you have evidence to support the idea that reporting rates have changed?
