  8. Yes he explains the link between this "simulation" and our physical brain quite often actually. He suspects that the attentional mechanisms of our brain (perception, attention to objects, attention to paying attention etc.) and the need for survival of the cell make it necessary to create a coherent model of the world in order to navigate it. So that's why the physical system is creating a "simulation" of the world in our mind. Obviously we cannot perceive everything of physical reality, e.g. x-rays, so our simulation is incomplete but a best guess.
