  1. Problem is they don't know where to go. Rebels without a clue

  2. Just gotta put on oversized clothing at complete random to disguise yourself as enemy troops.

  3. Gen eds are fine, they take up maybe 1 semester's worth of classes. Eliminating them won't make much of a dent.

  4. I'm guessing most of them aren't that expensive for the university to run, either, compared to classes requiring labs and computer equipment.

  5. Isn't getting a broad education the entire point of Liberal Arts Colleges? Do they take English literature classes at CalTech? I'm not American so I don't know how the system works, exactly.

  6. Contemporary clothing looks so ridiculous imo. There needs to be international conferences and stuff aimed at solving the problem.

  7. When they see PSAs they get angry and beat their partner/families more.

  8. Depends how you gauge wealth, he is in his mid 40s, say he’s saved up $200 a week for 10 years since his mid 30s, that is $102k. If he did this at double the amount (lives in a cheap area so possible) he could easy down pay 200k.

  9. Don't Lamborghinis and Ferraris cost an extraordinary amount to maintain as well, though? I've heard it's like having another child.

  10. Lol my family is lower middle class and we could afford him

  11. I never had any money or worked a job and he said to me exactly this: "we win? You pay from the winnings. We lose? You don't pay a dime. I'll hook you up, bro."

  12. It’s still that way for me. What apps do you use that need significant cursor control?

  13. Mouse is sometimes a little faster than using opt/cmd+arrows to navigate paragraphs of text, although I guess it must take more mental energy because I usually do it the slower way with my keyboard.

  14. I only use it once when in a blue moon when I can't remember what something is called, but can remember the icon.

  15. Lmao is that the one where he said "I've been in 5 accidents and each time the driver was a woman" completely ignoring the fact that he was also in all of those accidents, and that just means he's a bad driver, not the women?

  16. 5 accidents by age 35... The man must be an absolutely shocking driver.

  17. A ton of golf courses are irrigated with gray water these days, which makes me feel kinda okay about it, even though I hate golf and think it’s a tremendous waste of green space.

  18. Or space in general. I don't mind the sport, but don't see how it trumps simply having a park at the same location, or a school, office buildings, medium density residencies, shops, pretty much anything else really.

  19. Nope. Everyone knows it has to be a :00 or :30 number. Now i wont study 5:37, ill study 6:00, but hold on 6:30 sounds just as good. Nope ill study at 7:00

  20. Stuff like this is why I changed to concrete metrics like word count per day. If I "do" something for two hours, I'll just do it with as little effort as possible until the time is up. Whereas if I have to commit to x words per day, then I'll actually try to get it done in a reasonable amount of time. Also inures you to the work after a while and makes it harder to make meaningless excuses about it being too late, too early, too sunny outside, etc.

  21. As someone who used to live in an old brothel it took about 3 years for the last person to show up. It was 1am, I opened the door and he swayed side to side as he rubbed his hands together saying "..girls?"

  22. Uff you're going to have to learn a lot more forms for Spanish. French has less tenses/aspects/subjunctive forms and often the forms repeat themselves.

  23. Never understood people saying that Spanish is easier than French. Harder grammar and nowhere near as many nouns and adjectives that are easy to remember for English speakers. Pretty much anyone who likes to read English literature would already have a large French vocabulary to work with, and be able to puzzle out a lot of confusing sentences from context.

  24. Are we comfortable calling Canberra an urban environment?

  25. Canberra seems more like a giant university/office campus than a city to me.

  26. Cars getting stolen at 2am is not a "youth have nothing to do" problem

  27. We had a kid who would steal cars in my hometown. Told him that he should go to the temple and meditate. Once he masters it, he could travel anywhere, be anything. "I didn't think of that, bro", he said. He is now doing an engineering degree at Chicago University. Just goes to show.

  28. I remember Dutton was going on about how he's really into self-deprecating humour during his PR rounds in various magazines after the election loss.

  29. I've done this before. Went to an exam thinking it was on Friday when it was moved to an earlier date. I had to retake the class. It is not necessarily the end of the world. I now have my masters and PhD.

  30. Yep, I don't get it. It's so much easier to hear the other side in a noisy public environment when it's against your ear and it means everyone else doesn't hear both sides of your private conversion.

  31. I just don't answer my phone in loud places with lots of people talking or other noises because I can't differentiate between background conversations and my own conversation very well. Speaker helps, but I don't want everyone hearing my conversation...

  32. Imagine posting a Joe Hildebrand opinion piece for purposes other than mockery.

  33. I'll never really understand this kind of passion for the outcome. If their team does not win do they miss out on getting to have a massive street party or something like that? Why not just say, "shame about the outcome. Would've liked it if Carlton won", and have a party anyway?

  34. In Australia I learnt Chinese at school around that age. It was such a waste, imo. They should've chosen something remotely proximate to English or the big four romantic languages.

  35. I've always used a little paintbrush after I read that they're faster and more accurate once you get past the steep learning curve.

  36. Isn't Scotland the most obese nation in Europe. This might be why...

  37. I remember going on a ski trip about a week before I got my first pair of glasses from the optometrist. Everything went well until the damn moguls. Couldn't see shit.

  38. Last year there was a show on ABC called The Books that Made Us. The books discussed offered a wide range of perspectives on Australia - migrant, first nations, and more. I've only read a few - and some would probably be classed as depressing - but here's the list:

  39. That's a good list. I'd also add Gerald Murnane (eg The Plains), Randolph Stow (eg Merry-Go Round in the Sea), Kim Scott (eg Benang), and Alice Pung (eg Unpolished Gem).
