Yeah the alternative use of Quen creates a bubble shield around you. When enemies attack that shield, you get HP back. Once they break the shield it explodes damaging them.

I generally liked the tailing missions, it felt authentic to the genre itself. The only time I thought tailing was a bit naff was in Black Flag. I’m sure you’d notice a big ship following you.
