Alway assume this. Seriously op, once you start working live of noodles and rice for a year, and just save. You work in law, you don’t have time to go out anyway. Then buy anything. It can be a teeny tiny unit, it could be a fibro house out in dodgy ville, and just pay her down as fast as you can. Then, make your choice. If you want to upsize, move to a different area. You aren’t as behind as you think you are.
Nta- I must say when I was a kid I noticed in many multi sibling families there was often a favourite and a disliked one, I actually assumed that other adults in their lives didn’t see it. And now I am older I have noticed a pattern where their older parent expect help from the least favoured child so the favourite doesn’t get inconvenienced. What has surprised me is that as an adult you do see that there is a favourite and disliked child in my friends kids, and they just don’t see how they treat one like rubbish. I try so hard to make sure my kid’s don’t have this experience and I hope we don’t do it without realising.
Here is the thing OP, every child has a different childhood. Your parents know more now, maybe they saw something in you that wasn’t visible in your sibling. Your parents have grown up in parallel with you.

From what I’ve read the police know who took her, they just never had the evidence to prove in court and I imagine that happens a lot
