1. I only mix them before I use them, and I have a vortex mixer so it typically doesn't take too long even if they have been sitting for a long time.

  2. Yake says:

Awesome. I have seen posts on this subreddit of people with bad paints but it sounds like that was not a paint issue, or maybe a bad batch or something you typically wouldn’t see with normal paints.

  3. I have had a few random old paints go bad on me before, but others the same age or older that are still fine. Could be a bad batch, or maybe the seal wasn't as good as I thought.

  4. If your goal is to get decent looking models painted fast, then look into faster painting processes like

  5. There are two primary approaches that work well in my experience for NMM highlights.

  6. I haven’t tried them, but Vince Venturella did a review

  7. Cheers. I watched it there. It seems to go on well in 1 coat which is great but it looks as runny as contrast paint. I've used contrasts a bit and they're super finicky for the fine detail stuff and chaos trim is basically all fine detail stuff (so many spirals!).

  8. Yes, I can see how they could be challenging to control.

  9. Nice first attempt on your layering. There are some good resources below for painting orcs and layering muscles-

  10. Goobertown Hobbies did a comparison of different panel lining options in

  11. Would the mini forge technique work with black ink to get very dark recesses? I have a Higgins black magic drawing ink as well as liquitex ink

  12. It should work with any acrylic ink, but I haven't tried all the different options out there. I have done a similar technique with acrylic washes before, but now I mostly hand paint my dark lining for models I am taking my time with or use an oil wash if I'm going fast.

  13. Good first attempt. There are some good resources for OSL below-

  14. That's the right general idea. If the room is really dimly lit other than the fire, then the shadows will be darker every where that isn't lit up.

  15. There are some sculpting tutorials and resources

  16. There is a good collection of weathering tutorials

  17. Nice job! It always feels great to make an effort better than what you have done before! Here are a few resources you may find helpful-

  18. I thought that when I was doing it, never done it before so was unsure how to create a random pattern

  19. The main part of understanding NMM without using a reference photo or step by step guide, is simplifying the different parts of the object into simple forms like cylinders, cubes, cones and spheres. Then learning how each of those simple shapes needs to be highlighted and shaded based on what angle you want the light to hit the model.

  20. Nice paint job. Most people would be perfectly happy with it as is.

  21. Red will make it pop, but I don’t know that you want the belt to be the first thing the eye of the viewer is drawn to. An edge highlight on the top of the belt, or highlights on the folds and darker shadows in the creases of the belt are some ways to add definition without making the belt a primary focal point. The videos below show some great ways to make the model’s colors pop with brighter highlights & darker shadows. Increasing

  22. Thanks for the links: I started delving through a few, some I couldn't seem to apply or already knew,, but a video or two taught me some nonintuitive things and was really helpful, thanks for taking the time to compile and post this, i decided to keep going with the experiment: results are an improvement to be sure, probably will post when i get better pics.

  23. Cool, looking forward to seeing the new pictures.

  25. Painting all the black shadows a very dark blue is a good way to make them feel colder and add a bit more color to the model.

  26. I’m looking at them on Amazon. Apologies, I should have clarified, both of the ones I see are 24 paints + brush. I didn’t know if I was allowed to post links to Amazon, so didn’t, but here are screen shots of the 2 sets. Aside from the colour selection differences, I’m looking for something versatile enough to be able to paint the mini from both my games.

  27. There is a lot of overlap of identical colors between the two sets, but the Most Wanted Set you linked is SpeedPaint 2.0 as indicated by the 2.0 in the top right of the box, and the Mega set is 1.0 SpeedPaint.

  28. Thank you! That is something I don’t think I would’ve picked up on as an amateur painter.

  29. The heavy titanium white is much thicker paint out of the pot, which makes it good for mixing colors and techniques like

  30. There are a lot of good options listed
