I have a conspiracy theory for s5 actually. I think the network told them to back down on the gayness for some reason. After s4 but before s5, there's this infamous interview where Lucy Lawless herself (you know the one who to this day says Xena and Gabrielle were married and that their gayness was important) said that they were done with the "gay subtext joke"

Yes. I think Xena would've snapped if her daughter killed her partner. Like genuinely would've had a psychotic break and slaughtered a bunch of people to make her way to kill Livia.
