1. This is what bothers me about modern discourse, facts are facts. We can all disagree on what the factors are that cause the numbers but they are what they are. Instead, facts get pushed aside and we all have to sing the church song of modern society instead of facing facts and finding solutions. Recidivism is one of the most important aspects of this we need to understand and find a solution to but that's also hand waved away and it's racist to talk about.

  2. Well I am 41 and I think your career choice is excellent. Remember that everything in life has trade offs. You are who you are because you are a human with a mind capable of choosing. You're a power unto yourself and you make the world happen in your own way. Don't ever forget that you're in control of yourself and your choices effect people around you.

  3. People say this but then ignore all reputable sources citing the same thing. “Amid all the pressure to root out corruption, I assumed, perhaps naively, that officials in Ukraine would think twice before taking a bribe or pocketing state funds. But when I made this point to a top presidential adviser in early October, he asked me to turn off my audio recorder so he could speak more freely. “Simon, you’re mistaken,” he says. “People are stealing like there’s no tomorrow.” Even the firing of the Defense Minister did not make officials “feel any fear,” he adds, because the purge took too long to materialize. The President was warned in February that corruption had grown rife inside the ministry, but he dithered for more than six months, giving his allies multiple chances to deal with the problems quietly or explain them away. By the time he acted ahead of his U.S. visit, “it was too late,” says another senior presidential adviser. Ukraine’s Western allies were already aware of the scandal by then. Soldiers at the front had begun making off-color jokes about “Reznikov’s eggs,” a new metaphor for corruption. “The reputational damage was done,” says the adviser. ” -time magazine on the corruption in Ukraine Oct 2023

  4. Ohh no. No. You can't bring up legit journalism. We just want simple bite-sized memes that stroke our ego and make us feel simultaneous sympathy and support for Ukraine. Nothing else is allowed, we definitely don't want to start thinking or anything like that.

  5. I guess to elaborate, I can’t find people who stick around. I’ve been to therapy, & I’m certain I still have work to do, but I’ve talked through attitude problems that have made retaining friendship difficult. I’ve been able to correct, or recognize & amend, a lot of bad behaviors lately, & I’m proud of that. More recently, however, despite that I feel like I’ve made those changes over time, I 1) don’t seem to be getting positive results & 2) people who fail to stick around are more along the lines of “I got distracted & forgot about you” (for several hours, days, months, etc.), instead of an attitude problem on my end. The corrections I’ve made have done great with my one friend (the only one I have left) as well as improving relations either my family, but, I’ve been trying to meet new people for quite awhile after I felt like I made this positive progress, then came up empty. I’ve decided therefore that I want to try being content with myself instead, but it’s hard since I did want those connections at one point very recently.

  6. I'll be honest (I think that's what you're looking for, right?) you sound like you are difficult to be around. Perhaps you have improved that, but people want to be around people that lift them up, make them feel good, and have fun. To be frank, you sound exhausting.

  7. I remember this poem and I am certain it made an impact on me in my youth. Thank you for sharing.

  8. Yeah it sounds kind of sketchy, but I used it last year and it made doing taxes so easy and straightforward!

  9. My employer messed up my W2 and sent a W2-C that is corrected, and I have no idea how to enter it in, because the pdf reader doesn't process it correctly. Should I just say I have a W2 but put the info from a W2-C? I hate how it's not my fault but it is my problem my employer messed up my W2.

  10. You're highly partisan and not really able to comprehend nuance if you believe half the things you read here. I would suggest you go outside and stay off line until you've lived the life of an average conservative. Do you know what an average conservative even looks like, what job they do, and what their family is like?

  11. This couldn't be more true. Don't look at my comment section lol. I'm not even conservative but these far leftists on here are insanely toxic and don't care about opposing viewpoints. Challenging them leads to whataboutisms, denial, and then getting blocked bc it's easier to keep your head in the sand than actually doing self reflection and changing.

  12. OP had someone comment about how poor the coverage of Kyle Rittenhouse was which caused people to literally believe 3 black people were gunned down innocently, when he was attacked and defended himself and OP replied what about Tucker Carson? Okay. I understand the point of saying "media bad" but it doesn't fix anything at all.

  13. I have watched this 4 times now and I think the idiots are you and the other 2 cars in the left lane. Why are so many people camping out in the passing lane?

  14. That sucks, its worse because you know the city is going to drag it out and not want to pay out and its going to be such a headache. Sorry for your coworker.

  15. When something like this happened to me, my insurance company said they would cover the damage themselves because it was too much of a hassle to sue a city (but the damage wasn't nearly as bad as this.)

  16. Wasn’t there zero countries who were ever communist? All the countries past and today masking under communism were state capitalist, authoritarian regimes, or dictatorships no? Wouldn’t it be productive to explain the dangers of trying to implement communism, because of how that creates a springboard for evil people to take power very quickly? Maybe the second part is what your implying and I’m simply misunderstanding

  17. Something made up to explain how much people hate cars and want to walk everywhere.

  18. Why would you switch into neutral in an automatic, ever? Unless you’re having it towed or something.

  19. I do it to rev my i4 2.5 Camry engine in the parking lot when I see a coworker, like all the other cool kids. (I am the coolest kid in town, so it's just me)

  20. What you said is incorrect and a misrepresentation of fact.

  21. You realize that most of our parents were having a couple when we were created, right? The effect on sperm is minimal because your sperm is made throughout the day, not right when you're drinking. Any sperm that's not perfect is not going to make the journey to the egg.

  22. Originally, in order to vote, you needed to own land. The idea was you have skin in the game.

  23. Progressives like to call it a democracy because democracy is mob rule. Control the mob and the levers of power shift to them, but our forefathers understood that if the mob (pure democracy) was instituted, the majority would take from the minority. As news commentary leaned more progressive, the idea we are pure democracy has been pushed more and more until many Americans don't know the difference.

  24. No, it was in the 1820s that Americans began to speak of democracy as a good thing, and it was a populist movement generally associated with Andrew Jackson. I don’t think there is a single progressive on earth who wants to own Andrew Jackson. Also, our forefathers made a severe mistake when they inserted egalitarian language into our founding documents, if democracy was something they opposed. Their “cognitive dissonance“ on that point has allowed the US to become a representative democracy despite their efforts to prevent it, which prove that the words of the founding documents had more power than the intentions of the founding fathers.

  25. You are totally ignorant of our founding fathers "Federalist Papers". You should read more before you try to sound so smart and repeat words you don't understand like "cognitive dissonance" which is a truly amusing problem of yours, specifically, several of my collages followed your history and can't believe you even used those words with the things you say. It is like the blind leading the blind.

  26. I'd totally do it and charge 2 hours of O/T per day. They can't deny to pay you and if they do, then you have it in writing (hint hint) they told you to come in.

  27. Sure give me the money, this is how life is everyday anyway

  28. Today a customer came to tell me how his car broke down with a no start condition after having the alternator replaced at another shop (we do mechanical, electrical and body work).

  29. Tell him that Jupiter is in retrograde Aquarius and as such the car has decided to renew it's choices in life.

  30. I buy my GF's tampons all the time, I don't even think about it and no one cares. And if they did, so what?

  31. Can you check how much it would cost to insure it? Some insurance companies way over charge for Kia and Hyundai because they get targeted for theft.

  32. What would happen if layoffs were done for non-financial reasons? As an example, let's consider the following:

  33. This should get a delta, but OP would rather punish people they feel are too successful. Their position is that if people are laid off the CEO should feel some of their pain, but it's an emotional choice and not a business choice and while it is nice for them to overlap, they usually don't in a business setting.
