1. I’d say YTA for this one because she offered to drive herself. If she can actually drive and just doesn’t have a license then you should’ve let her drive herself. A lot of Ubers and Lyfts won’t take someone to the hospital. Ambulances are $2000. The drive was probably like 10 minutes.

  2. If she felt up to driving herself it was not an emergency room injury. RICE it and go to urgent care the next day, which is the intended provider for injuries like that.

  3. INFO why didn't you just call an ambulance like normal people do?

  4. Please don’t call an ambulance (or go to the ER) for an ankle injury that is minor enough you feel you could drive yourself (which she suggested). It takes resources away from people experiencing actual life threatening events.

  5. I’ve just accepted that I’ll be on ambien forever. I’ve tried every trick and every supplement, and while some do help improve my sleep quality, the only thing that actually gets me to sleep nearly every night for 5-7 hours is ambien. Because of Lyme my insomnia is worse than ever - although I’ve had issues with it since childhood thanks to autism (sensory issues), ADHD (busy brain), and RLS. It also severely restricts what medications I can take. So many of them make my insomnia or RLS worse. If it’s dementia from not sleeping or dementia from ambien … might as well sleep and have some level of function each day. I have a great sleep specialist and he tried to help me get off it but after 3+ years we gave up. In addition to ambien I take gabapentin for RLS which has some sedation effects, a THC+CBD gummy, GABA, luteolin, glutathione, melatonin, glycine, and l-ornithine. I switched to smart bulbs and use red line after dark as much as possible, plus the usual sleep hygiene recommendations. I even found a job where I can work flexible hours which lets me sleep during the hours my body is more naturally tired, though still not able to sleep without assistance.

  6. I moved to the middle of nowhere in large part because of the constant lawn care noises closer to civilization. It’s had a huge impact on my stress levels. AuDHD here. I always put it down to the autism but could be an ADHD issue too.

  7. If the tank is from an earlier era of your house I just want to add that it may not be designed like they are now. Folks are saying you’ll need to crawl under and hand dig until you hit the lid, but just be aware it might not be accessible even once you reach it.

  8. I can’t have kids but my father is autistic (mother ADHD) and has four autistic kids. My autistic brothers each have at least 1 autistic child each. We’re not sure about the 2 girls yet but both their boys were easily diagnosed. I don’t think either of their spouses are autistic but one may be…

  9. Looks like our Dutchwest 2461 or similar model. That’s the secondary air intake for when you have the catalyst engaged (the lever in the top left of your photo, which is currently open/not engaged).

  10. I think an example of what you think looks nice might help. I don’t like to squish my toes or have any kind of drop, so I wear Altras for running, Xero sandals for walking/hiking (they have some casual women’s shoes as well as more functional options), and Duckfeet shoes if I want something dressier. I love Duckfeet for comfort + looks but it sounds like you don’t like wide toebox shoes. Barefoot every chance I get honestly, but the brands I mentioned have been the best options I’ve found for wide foot comfort. I used to find Clark’s pretty comfy but they don’t have a wide enough toebox for me anymore. Might be worth a look for you? For arch support while doing a lot of walking I’d try adding insoles like Superfeet. Also in the short term while your feet heal you can use Moleskin to protect the blisters and still enjoy your vacation. It’s also helpful as a preventative if you always get blisters in the same spots.

  11. Just bury the lines like a modern society should

  12. Do they shut off the electricity in those lines while they swing a giant chainsaw around or just hope for the best?

  13. Not sure if they’re still offered, but we enjoyed Fringe, Haven, and especially Counterpart. The first two were ScyFy channel, so as much about the people as the science fiction. The last is a more serious “Fringe” with TJ Simmons.

  14. Congrats! It’s a game changer. If you like different light options I’d test out some mid range smart bulbs. I’m not into “smart house” stuff in general but do love having color changing/brightness changing bulbs in my room.

  15. Warning though- you may be asked to foster a pet that is young and not yet housebroken. Training a puppy is a lot of work and time and the rescue org will want you to at least begin the process.

  16. You can certainly state the types of pets you’re able to foster. If you don’t want to/can’t deal with housetraining and you state that, they won’t ask you to foster an untrained puppy.

  17. Half of ours have no teeth left and the other half are on daily medication for asthma or kidney disease, so they’d struggle. Five cats and only one of them is a half decent hunter.

  18. That hasn’t been true anywhere I’ve lived. Where are you finding that information?

  19. Clothing is not resold unless you are returning unworn merchandise and if that's the case why are you even buying it.

  20. Not all unworn/unused merchandise is resold. Depending on the company they may be throwing it away.

  21. That's horrendous. His preference shouldn't get to overrule your actual functioning NEED. And constantly going back and forth between your way and his is just bad for both of you.

  22. It’s very possibly a need for him to have no visual clutter for his nervous system. I’m AuDHD and the internal fight over needing minimalism vs needing to keep things in sight so I remember them is really rough. That’s what this situation feels like to me. This is more about their ability to communicate and find a balance than about whose choices are right or wrong.

  23. You know, being rude to me is not going to make our disagreement better. I explained in a previous reply to someone else why I struggle with the word. Now it seems like you're talking down to me or treating me like I'm stupid. I'm not.

  24. The comment you’re replying to seems like they’re trying to be genuinely helpful and doesn’t feel rude at all? It does seem like the way you have been interpreting the word isn’t the way it’s generally used.

  25. Pharma regulatory & publishing. Usually it’s great. I work from home, mostly interact with clients via email, work the schedule that suits me (on & off from 11 am through evening), handle all my doctors appointments during the work day with no problems, get to create order from chaos, and make great money. Because it’s generally so suited to my needs I do feel like I can’t ever leave or ask for a break. My boss falls apart when I take short vacations and I usually end up working during my trips.

  26. Most of the these suggestions are pretty bad for an austistic person. You don't want anything with a convoluted plot where she's going to be frustrated that she either can't understand or follow the plot and where she can't even express herself so that she discuss it with someone else.

  27. As an autistic adult I think you have a very outdated understanding of autism. We have as wide a variety of humor preferences and understanding of plot as everyone else. I quite enjoy complex plots and I hate repetitive jokes. I never have trouble following the storyline. Good on OP for understanding their stepdaughter much better.

  28. Sure. My mother, on the legal side. Because it was a steady job and she was sick of nursing so she went to law school then worked for IRS. She eventually quit and got into medical writing. Very normal/kind/generous person, if a bit indecisive in her career.

  29. You may need to wait until you have more data. Though as far as I know the only experiment option they’ve introduced is reducing caffeine and they basically haven’t done anything with that feature since.

  30. If I tried that everything on any flat surface would be toast as all five cats desperately hunted the light dots.

  31. I never used to have this problem. I noticed it really became an issue when practices were being bought by hospitals or other large systems/firms. My sister, who is a doctor, explained it to me like this: providers are not allowed ample time for appointments. Usually, they have 15 minutes. Many complicated patients cannot be treated in 15 minutes. So now they are already running behind. On top of that, they may have to do paperwork for each patient. They are not given any time to do paperwork between appointments. Their employers count on a certain number of cancellations and assume they will do paperwork during those blocks. Sometimes they have to do paperwork at the end of the day unpaid. Sometimes it’s important for them to do paperwork immediately following the appointment. Between appointments that run to the full 15 minutes and need paperwork immediately or appointments that run longer than 15 minutes because it’s a complicated patient, they start to run behind. The only way I have found to avoid this issue is to see physicians who own their own practice and make a point of having longer appointments or to make sure that you are the very first appointment of the day.

  32. Northeast Tennessee / NorthCarolina border on the Appalachian Trail. This is where I reside, and there are an abundance of absolutely remarkable hikes everywhere around.

  33. I’m in the same area and it’s really excellent hiking. As much as I’d love to be in the Rockies I can’t afford it/have asthma so the smoke is an issue. I’m very happy staying in the Appalachians as a second choice. Fantastic hiking right in my backyard and countless interesting hiking destinations within a day’s drive.

  34. Totally makes sense to rent this. Some people buy their own large tools for the sake of it. Again emotional purchases that just take up space in a garage.

  35. Or a necessity because you can’t exit your driveway to go rent a chainsaw without a chainsaw around 2 times a year.
