Kids do know how to read, they just read at an incredibly low grade level.. some of the reasoning I've heard from some educators: lots of education systems just assumed that kids within the technological age would consume a lot of content, so focusing heavily on reading beyond the basic "this is how you read" was far more limited compared to millennials and GenZ.
Heavily agree with the computer stuff. I'm Gen X (got on the internet in 1988, when that took a bit of doing) and for a while, it was true that "young people know computers, older people don't."
As someone that works in technology, I was fucking terrified that I would constantly be competing with younger people as they grew up and entered the workforce.
Emotional/mental neglect, alienation, consumerist culture, gender roles, lack of third spaces, and the general, genderless loneliness brought on by social media.
I would absolutely just place the blame firmly on social media, to be honest. From my own kids, it's weird watching them put so much effort into their online appearance and persona while spending so little time with friends in person.
The especially fucked up thing about this is that, IIRC, this is directly about paying people to cover up the election interference, not about paying people to hide an affair.
