1. not true at all for london calling… it’s a 19 track album and most of the tracks are better than the self-titled one

  2. Curious for opinions from his fans - I read The Only Good Indians by him and didn’t enjoy it, but I see his praises being sung by all of my favourite authors. Just wondering if it’d be worth trying some of his other stuff (I know I have some authors I love but I still advise friends not to start with certain books of theirs), or if I should just chalk it up to my not particularly meshing with his stuff?

  3. some of his short fiction is really great—“attack of the 50-foot indian” was surprisingly sentimental for me despite ostensibly being absurd and campy, “the backbone of the world” is a solid standout from a good collection, and “the night cyclist” (which i admittedly read a while ago) was interesting

  4. Most recently, “Feed” by MT Anderson shocked me with its accurate and sudden portrayal of grief/loss. Probably the best portrayal of “being a teenager” that I’ve ever read, too.

  5. I haven’t read it in many years, but I remember it hooked me pretty much immediately. The back half was definitely the best part though… either way I do think it’s worth reading, not only due to its classic status but also because of how often it gets referenced.

  6. not in the collection, but you should watch some hong sang-soo… and drive my car, which IS in the collection!

  7. i liked the wacky and “bad” episodes almost as much as the “best” episodes on my first watch… but then again i’ve never made it all the way through the series again after my initial watch. season 2 finale stands pretty well on its own though (it is the best episode of television ever imo lol)

  8. for what it’s worth i’ve never had this issue with the channel in my 4 years of subscribing. sounds like it might be more of an issue with the device that you’re watching on?

  9. PSA: Hamaguchi’s WHEEL OF FORTUNE AND FANTASY is leaving the Channel at the end of this month(/week)!

  10. great movie! liked it more than drive my car even (and i really liked drive my car!)

  11. ants from up there specifically has a sound that reminds me of the mid-00s indie music boom of artists like arcade fire, music that i listened to in my formative years basically. so AFUT pretty easily slid into that zone of “nostalgic but new” for me
