1. I feel like saying “you’re rich, you can’t be depressed” is kinda reductive. We see lots of rich famous celebrities committing suicide - anyone can struggle with mental illness and for rich and famous people, they struggle with the pressure of public perception in a way normies like us will never know. I’m not rich or famous, but I am an artist, and I know it would make me extremely depressed to have so many people depend on me in that way. She’s allowed to complain about it and I still sympathize with rich people’s bad mental health even if I disagree with capitalism as a whole.

  2. She isn't struggling with mental health, she's belittling others who do. She's just repeating a tired cliché. In this case she very much provoked her own pain to see what happens, nobody forced her or even asked her to do any of it.

  3. Lol people weren’t poking her and causing her pain “just to see what happens.” I don’t think what those fans did was appropriate at all and I think she is as 100% entitled to a private life as an other adult is. But the way she is portraying the backlash against her relationship with Matty is starting to come across as pretty disingenuous. That’s not what happened.

  4. I would argue that the moment you include the presence of your boyfriend in the audience as part of the concert, it's no longer private, it's part of the show. The applause and booing are two sides of the same coin.

  5. Absolutely crazy, even for her, that this line made it in. You know she really thought she ate with it too. She thought she was gonna get praise for being so #woke 😭

  6. I think in this case it's less that people around her won't tell her no, it's that people she surrounds herself with aren't sensitive to the subject and don't see the issue in the first place. Her dad is a conservative, her mom probably too, Blake Lively got married on a plantation and tried to launch a lifestyle brand glamorising antebellum south, someone in her PR team snuck in far right dog whistles about Soros into two of her statements about her masters sale. I'm giving her benefit of the doubt that she isn't a white supremacist, but the Soros thing means she has a nazi rat in her inner circle and I'm not talking about Matthew.

  7. I can’t wait for this man to release Here’s The Actual Tea (Joe’s Version) (From the Vault), except we all know he actually has class and integrity and won’t
but damn just think about the money he could make with a tell-all.

  8. The fact that he helped her through her darkest days, and when his darkest days came she chose to run off to someone else's arms tells a lot about her character.

  9. Her adversity to therapy and then outing Joe's depression while admitting she was annoyed by it and did nothing to help him is really awful.

  10. And then she dresses up her album in trappings of mental health terminology. "It was a manic episode, it was self harm" I need to see a doctor's note, and a real one, not "honorary".

  11. "i love this album!!!" - Pitchfork gave It 6 - "OMG it's her worst album!!!"

  12. To be fair it's not that they change their opinion of "everything Taylor does is 20/10" after reading a bad review, it's that they don't have a number they can use to present their opinion as fact and it's things like "Ariana made better album about cheating with an ugly man" that drive them mad.

  13. There’s a middle aged man out there that would leave his whole family to be with a woman exactly like this

  14. Eww, I can understand eloping with a goth chic or a biker girl, but this... a permanent adult baby... why if you want to run away from children screaming about going to Disneyland?

  15. /uj Every time I hear them equating womanhood with being small, weak and in shadow of large man, hanging on his arm, I die a little inside.

  16. you can pre-order the tortured poets department signature scent separately! it includes notes of: cigarette ash, cocaine, musk, battery acid, red wine, weed, paper, and baby skin!

  17. They act like that was the worst thing that happened in 2016.

  18. To successfully pull off a concept album you have to come up with the concept first and have self discipline to stick to it, not write whatever and after the fact stitch something together for marketing purposes even if it doesn't actually hold water. It probably also helps to be upfront and honest what the concept is, unlike Midnights being presented as "13 sleepless nights through my life" but actually is "dying relationship with Joe, growing relationship with Matt, plus dragging Kanye and scooter for fun, through last couple of years".

  19. I listened to the whole thing (both albums) once, but it was a slog. I know people have been saying it's a grower and you need to listen to it a few times before the songs all stop sounding the same, but the thing is, I've never had to do that with a Taylor Swift album before. Midnights wasn't my favorite either but after one listen, I thought a few songs were standouts and I was happy to listen to them again. With this, I literally cannot remember the melody of even one song.

  20. That's not a grower, that's Stockholm syndrome.

  21. Really, the people who keep commenting that they had to listen to it 5 times to appreciate it are just gaslighting themselves. It's wild. You're allowed to change your mind on an album, but no good music should take several listens before it can be enjoyed.

  22. If you've spent 10 hours of your weekend on it you'd definitely try to justify it to yourself and convince that you didn't waste that time.

  23. ...But she didn't tell them not to do that. At all, or ever. In fact, she encourages it, even if subtly/indirectly

  24. She told them to do what they are told and not question her decisions, not act against her. She doesn't give a toss about harassment of her exes, probably greatly enjoys it.

  25. I naively thought that once it became clear that most of the album and most of Taylor’s pain she describes on said album was about Matty that the rabid stans would drop the Joe fixation but I was stupid lol.

  26. Because they would have to admit 1. They were wrong 2. Their idol is an asshole. It's like conspiracy theorists, when presented with evidence debunking their theory they double down on it and create an even more extreme version.

  27. Wow, 6 and 6.6 out of five stars, that's pretty good.

  28. "Hahaha, all the stupid pretentious shit I said is a joke, it's part of the bit, it's simulation of simulation. Everything I said about my masturbation preferences, it's comedy podcast, Adam Friedland said it" She and ratty are really soulmates.

  29. I feel like that comment is a copypasta or at least referencing the Rick and Morty one, and is supposed to be a joke. I’m hoping it is at least

  30. Please merciful gods, I beg of you that it's a joke. Especially the IQ 5 points lower to see his tramp stamp.

  31. I think this has more to do with her saying during the Betty speech in the Eras tour that when she wrote folklore she would imagine living in a cabin in the Victorian age. That was her mode of escapism which the song talks about.

  32. Queen Victoria was crowned in 1837, so towards the end of that decade, 1830s would still be Georgian England. The line is about living in that decade, not being born, so it's the decade with least amount of Queen Victoria and her influence for the rest of the century.

  33. Would anyone be shocked if Taylor’s understanding of “Victorian era” didn’t perfectly match up to the actual years though?

  34. Well, me personally, no, I wouldn't be shocked to learn she only looked up new words out of desire to win at Scrabble and never delved deeper. But there is this massive contingent of her fans convinced that she's lyrical genius and hides messages and double or triple meanings in every syllable and it's all intentional and part of the master plan.

  35. When you get to the point of emotional cheating which it seems like she was doing for quite awhile, I don’t see why you’d even want that ring anymore.

  36. Yeah, I don't think she gets to complain and say she tried so hard when she was carrying a torch for this other dude this entire time. Maybe he wouldn't marry her because he could tell she wasn't fully in, not because she's people pleaser.

  37. off topic but I can’t wait for the ridiculous acronyms and nicknames these people are going to come up with for travis when they break up. I just now put together that yb = yogurt boy which is so stupid but also so funny that they can’t just use his name like they do for literally every other one of her exes lmfao.

  38. Plot twist, Matty is just Karlie in drag HAVE WE EVER SEEN THEM IN THE SAME ROOM

  39. Marty is just Karlie in drag when she's standing in a ditch to make her shorter than Taylor.

  40. Pre-orders count towards album numbers so it doesn’t matter if the person who bought it actually has it in their hands when the album drops

  41. Billboard only counts preorder as album sold once it's shipped. That's why Evermore knocked off Sour from #1 in the charts: the vinyls were finally leaving the warehouses and going to customers who ordered them, after half a year it accumulated a record number of units sold.

  42. He has a face only Mother could love.

  43. Her high school experiences were stolen by a younger man she met in her late twenties.

  44. his acting is decent but he’s kinda forgettable tbh so i think his association with taylor was a good form of networking and staying relevant without going too out of his comfort zone and getting his name out there.

  45. I would say that acting wise, acting schools churn out hundreds of guys like him every year, so he's not special, it's just that all those aspiring actors didn't get the same opportunities he got and he gets to be a working actor because of it. But this whole "I only work on projects that interest me and with directors I respect" attitude is something nepo babies have, because if they bomb the audition they can go back to their Malibu beach house and wait for their agent to arrange the next one, and it's something being with Taylor gave him. If they didn't get together he would have to take whatever gigs that came around, play minor parts, do some TV pilots or guest characters, maybe theatre, hell, maybe ads and corporate training videos. Gain experience and learn flexibility, and maybe in a decade or two he can get a breakout role like David Harbour, Nick Offerman or Anson Mount, like there is a lot of shit these guys been in before they were successful and they are great. As far as being supporting or character actor Joe's resume is sparse, if you're not the leading man you have to work a lot, and he kind of squandered years not doing that. Cool that Yorgos gives him regular work, but that's one guy, who else is there.

  46. Those lyrics were AI but I'd imagine TS12 might gonna be similar to The Alchemy or So High School (cause you know, Travis) unless she writes another Lover album (which I am fine with cause I love the album)

  47. Or she writes one more "Ratty, take me back" album

  48. actually the album feels like she wanted to. Or at least an insight she wanted to get back with him despite she got pissed at him (by blaming the fans instead of acknowledging his shitty behaviour)

  49. I have no doubt in my mind she would go back in a heartbeat. She could be standing at the altar or waiting for the nurses to bring in her newborn and one wink from that cigarette butt would be enough for her to run back to him. There is no low too low, she broke through the rock bottom.

  50. Interesting that she calls the fans "vipers" when she herself used snakes as the main symbol for reputation. POT MEET KETTLE

  51. To be specific, she was called a snake after Kimye doctored phone call recordings were revealed, and Rep was taking back and owning the symbol. Now she calls others vipers, while revealing the depth of her duplicity and cheating on Joe showing how much of a snake she really is.

  52. I know i'll get downvoted for this, but Healy is the most developed songwriter out of all the men she's dated. Mayer was a good musician but Healy's had one of the most successful bands on the planet, and he writes his own songs, and his music, like it or not, is original and has a very broad fan base. He's definitely the most gifted songwriter she's been with. That's going to be insanely attractive to Swift because that's what she values.

  53. On which planet? Because he's not in one of the most successful bands on Earth.

  54. It's interesting, but it mostly feels like they listened to question then assumed what happened in 2014 from that, not like they have new details

  55. Yeah, it's super easy to take a song and just add "I was there" without further proof. Give some info that's not out in the open if you're an insider.

  56. does he? i think it was always a casual relationship (kinda like taylor and travis) since she has posted vids of her making out w other guys at parties on her ig stories. I know they were together at coachella, but idk tbh i dont think they'll last. The only reason why i think their relationship has lasted this long is bc he wanted to forget about taylor and distract himself, and gabriette had just broken up w her bf of like 6 yeras who immediately started dating meredith (the girl matty hooked up w for a bit before and after taylor). i think theyre just using each other.

  57. Well, a little over year ago, she was biggest pop star in the world in long term relationship that everyone in public considered endgame and perfect, and for him she burned it down and declared her love for him on biggest stage. It must be a huge ego trip to have this sort of control over someone so powerful , even if he doesn't want a relationship with her. Now she's even bigger pop star, in a "long term" relationship that everyone in public considers endgame and perfect... and she released this record. I believe he will do it again and ghost her again for the rush of it, to prove the point, to tarnish this American Royalty narrative that built up. Like imagine if she dumps Travis day before the first game of the season or day before Superbowl.

  58. I think I agree with you about "really wanting kids", there have been somewhat mixed signals. The quote you brought up actually isn't the last time, in Miss Americana she said she's definitely not ready to have kids. While basically all of that doc aged like milk, that's still the message she wanted to put out there. Additionally, the vision of her future children in Anti-hero MV isn't exactly something a person who wants to start a family would come up with. Does she want marriage and kids, or is it what being romantic sounds like, it's what people in love are supposed to talk about and she's all about playing into these clichés. Like it's not real if you don't have baby talk.
