1. Duke fans here are the positives: You'll be getting a guy who does all the little things, trash talks, gets under others' skin, and hits 3s at an extremely high rate. Will also get offensive rebounds at a surprising rate for his size.

  2. My father was a lifelong Kansas Jayhawks fan. His daughter, my sister, attended college in North Carolina at East Carolina University. She married a man from North Carolina, whose whole family is from North Carolina. Both my sister and brother-in-law are tall people. As a joke, at their rehearsal dinner the day before the wedding, my father revealed a contract he had prepared that pre-committed any future basketball-gifted children to play at the University of Kansas. The contract specifically stated that no future son or daughter was allowed to commit to Duke or North Carolina. My father made all parties involved sign the contract.

  3. I said this in the original and I'll say it again:

  4. Seven word title that featured three school names.

  5. And when that happens, we can likely say goodbye to every college sport not named football or basketball (and maaaaaybe baseball/softball).

  6. It's sad for the current athletes, and I hope that when it happens that each school honors the scholarships, but we have been due for a course correction for decades. I know multiple former D1 rowers who had never done crew a day in their lives that were offered scholarships simply because they "fit the build" (and it's hard to find someone who has done it before college).

  7. No, cutting sports (which is absolutely going to happen at an accelerated speed) is.

  8. As long as Indianapolis in December is not the host of the SEC tournament, then I like our chances. I want no part of the SEC tournament version of A&M.

  9. As a sicko, I’ve had the pleasure of watching several Chicago State games. He is a good coach.

  10. LIU basketball lately has been even more of a sicko situation.

  11. Don't want to give a "you learned your lesson" speech, but this is the kind of thing that should be asked up front before ever entering money into something, even if it's just five bucks.

  12. Completely understandable. He was a great teammate who sacrificed playing time for the greater good of the team, but who has a COVID year to use, and can get more action somewhere else.

  13. Our fact checkers are looking into it, but he may also be the only person born in the past 50 years named Clark.

  14. Honestly this is the time that I begin to love this sub again. The junkies who follow the sport year round are the best. The influx of unflaired blowhards from early March to early April each year is tiresome.

  15. Outside of this year's title game run, Purdue just seems cursed in the tournament. Lots of early exits under Painter and Keady.

  16. Yeah, we've had quite the 40 year stretch of ill-timed injuries and choke jobs leading up to this season.

  17. Meh, Purdue's offense worked just fine against 99 percent of the country despite being "out of date". They just ran into a team with better players who were executing at a top level.

  18. 21 of the past 24 championship games were won by the team with the higher season three point shooting percentage.

  19. The perimeter shooting has been UConn's one weakness this tournament but they're so well balanced otherwise it hasn't really hurt them yet.

  20. Yeah obviously they're still very good at so many other things that it probably won't be a factor but I did find that stat interesting.

  21. I don’t want to take anything away from the women’s side but the mens side need to take notes. This time slot is so much better than the men’s. Starting at 920 east helps drive away from casuals from watching. Mid day on Sunday is so much better imo.

  22. So, Caitlin Clark will take her COVID year to play men's basketball next season to drive up the ratings?

  23. Fine, it's uncommon if you want to be pedantic about it.

  24. KenPom only goes back to 2002. Duke would definitely have been 1. UConn definitely could have been 2. Maryland was 2 in SRS (UConn was 3).

  25. It only goes back to 2002 for non subscribers.

  26. Thanks again for your dedication to this, Nighthawk. Loved seeing your daily posts again this season.

  27. I'll take it as an omen that the previous two matchups of "clear 1 and 2" were won by the number 2 that year.

  28. well one of those teams was also UConn

  29. ...the plucky underdog who had never won a title before version of UConn

  30. Purdue, because I went there in the late 90s and have suffered enough as a college sports fan.

  31. I think either way this season is a success. If you told any team in the country in preseason that they’d lose in the natty, everyone would take it.

  32. Absolutely. I told my wife before the tournament that if we make the F4 then it's mission accomplished. Anything beyond that is gravy.

  33. I understand their recent disappointments in the tournaments but their seeds in the last few years have been: 3, 6, 2, Missed, 2, 5, 2, 4, 1, etc.

  34. Wild but true fact: Purdue has never fired a basketball coach

  35. Honestly with how prevalent streaming is now, starting the game earlier probably doesn't even affect most of the west coast. They can tune in late, watch it on delay, and skip through commercials until they are caught up with the live feed.

  36. When Kelvin Sampson left Indiana in 2008, only 3.8 percent of the minutes returned the next season (Kyle Taber had all of them I believe).

  37. A beagle was never meant to be a great Dane
