Maybe there’s a way to combine Signal’s E2E encryption style with a Fediverse-type app? Where a server maintainer is required but can’t tamper with vote outcomes? Idk, clearly my software engineering knowledge is pretty limited, but I feel like there’s got to be a way.
I'm actually working on an e2e encrypted platform with discord-like features for my CS degree, ( Where it wouldn't be difficult to implement a polling mechanism ). Unlike Signal, the messages sent to a group are encrypted with a shared private symmetric key and stored on the server. This allows new invited group members to have access to previously uploaded posts of the room ( Making the experience feel more like a social media platform). Also, because there is only one instance of a particular message sent to the room that members can download and decrypt, there are no significant synchronisation problems. The idea is that client devices only have to store encryption keys and not the data itself, as the data is persistent on the server. However this architecture lacks a lot of the cryptographic characteristics that the signal protocol provides, namely forward secrecy and non-repudiation. As mentioned above, persistent storage has some security flaws. It is also important to note that signal does not only aim to protect the data on transit but also metadata, such as the social graph.
The fact that you talk about known weaknesses gives me confidence in your work. It shows you know how hard the problem is and are looking for vulnerabilities.

Τον Οκτώβρη που πέρασε πήγα Πίνδο και εχω να πω οτι ειναι το πιο όμορφο μέρος που εχω επισκεφτεί στην ζωή μου. Συγκεκριμένα ξεκινήσαμε απο Βοβούσα και ακολουθώντας το Ursa trail καταλυξαμε στο Μέτσοβο με 2 διανυχτερεύσεις στην διαδρομή (~35km). Χριάστηκε αρκετες φορές να περάσουμε ποτάμια αλλα μην φανταστείς τιποτα επικινδυνο, εφτανε το νερο μεχρι ενα μετρο το πολύ. Η διαδρομή εχει τα ανεβοκατεβάσματά της και βρήσκεσε παντα αρκέτα κοντα σε κάποιο ποτάμι , κατι το οποιο προσωπικα κανει την διαδρομή πιο όμορφη και ενδιαφέρον λογο της πανίδας και χλωρίδας κοντά στο νερό.
As I see it you don't need to create your own consensus algorithm nor set up your own blockchain. You could get the censorship resistant characteristic from an already built blockchain. They way I imagine this could work is that each of the content creators uploads a hash of the digital file they have created to the blockchain. ( A hash is a unique character representation of the digital file, this is how NFTs work) . The digital file wont be uploaded to the blockchain itself as it is very expensive to store that amount of data on there, but it could be hosted by a distributed file sharing protocol like IPFS (maybe through filecoin). This way you would have proof on who did what for any of your films.
