The thing about Earthsea isn’t that some parts are left more muddy or ambiguous, is that there’s no real intrigue into what things might mean because the characters and world are so otherwise boring. Howl’s Moving Castle has a lot of confusing moments but it’s pulled through by a cast of loveable characters with tons of memorable moments and set pieces. We barely get to know anything about Earthsea’s cast and they’re all the same level of stoic and humorless, and the majority of the movie just has nothing happening on a farm.
I thought most of Earthsea’s characters were very interesting. They’re not exactly all comedic relief like HMC can be but they’re really neat characters. I do understand the setting though. For the most part the movie takes place in one village which might get a bit tiresome. Spoilers for TWR and Kaguya but I did get lost in The Wind Rises story in the middle. It might just be a personal experience. As for Kaguya, some parts of the story didn’t make a whole lot of sense like how she just became a princess with an entire castle and servants and the people on the moon coming to take her away. Kaguyas also VERY long so that didn’t help it. I’m not throwing shade to those two at all though, I loved them very much
I’m not asking for comic relief, I’m just asking for a personality. Give me something to latch onto or relate to. You don’t even learn what Arrin’s internal struggle is until two-thirds of the way through the movie.
I thought the Earthsea characters had personality. Someone can have personality without knowing their backstory. As for Kaguya I missed that somehow 🤷♂️
Maybe you’ve watched them already but I think Ghibli movies like, for example, Kiki’s delivery service, my neighbour Totoro, Ponyo match this description. Not exactly regular life but there’s a big emphasis on small things we do during the day, cooking food, looking at life, etc.
We can only hope to get both 🙏 thankfully they’ve got my favorite covered (bowser jr.), but another favorite of mine is petey pirahna. Maybe one day!

I definitely think she’s the biggest one we’re missing, it shocks me she didn’t get made back in 2017-18 considering how many odyssey figures we got
