1. Uber in 2024 it is near impossible to make $1.5/mile (6x $0.25 per mile).Ā Ā

  2. If youā€™re a mechanic and could fix it yourself thatā€™s actually probably a decent price for a car.

  3. $4500 + $2500-3500 for a rebuilt transmission is not the worst deal, but Iā€™d rather just use the $7000-$8000 for an older Camry, Accord, etc.

  4. It's more efficient to have gas generator power an electric vehicle than running the vehicle directly on gas. That's how hybrids work, Honda hybrids atleast. The gas engine can use Atkinson cycle and run at optimum efficiency while the electric motor can recoup energy from braking.

  5. Toyota hybrids actually use the atkinson cycle engine + a large motor/generator to drive the wheels. It also uses a small electric motor coupled to the engine via a planetary gearset to vary the ā€œoutput ratioā€ of the transmission, similar to a CVT variator pulley but way more robust and efficient.

  6. When I did uber and someone hounded me with ā€œWhy you not movingā€ or something along those lines when thereā€™s a lot of traffic, I would cancel immediately.

  7. I don't know where I got my math wrong, but I figured it was something like $3 per charge of my 17.5Ah battery... this makes me smile.

  8. Sounds like you actually need an upgrade to a direct drive hub. Theyā€™re larger and will never need gear replacements. They work pretty much forever as long as water doesnā€™t get in there.

  9. Welcome to capitalism. Any company big enough to have a global presence is relying on some kind of slave labor somewhere along their supply chain.

  10. Thought about doing that but I figure it wouldnā€™t attach probably. Iā€™ll try it next chance I get.

  11. Alternatively, if you have access to a dremel or any kind of grinder, you could grind a small indent just enough for the bolt head.

  12. Lol, itā€™s true that women get inordinately more matches than men. Men have a 0.5% chance of matching(versus 10% for women, that's 20X more matches), thatā€™s a depressing and real stat. Thereā€™s a real disparity thatā€™s beyond some sort of projected misogyny.

  13. Psychologically corrosive experience, I love that term to describe online dating, it's so perfect.

  14. Larger point is where TF is this person thinking you can you get a Tesla for 30k? šŸ¤” šŸ¤£ Have they been car shopping since covid? šŸ¤£

  15. Telsa Model 3's are not that expensive. It's a model 3, not a Polestar or a Lucid, so yeah it's close to the price of a normal car.

  16. Every vehicle is prone to fires. Teslas are in the news the most because it get clicks and views. I've personally seen multiple gas vehicle fires but I've never seen an EV fire. It's just sensationalism and property owners using any excuse they can to ban cars they were told to hate on fox news.

  17. Yep, anyone who drives a lot will have seen a few burnt out husks of a vehicle on the side of a road. I've seen a dozen ICE machines on fire, even a St. John's County FD ambulance burn down. Kind of ironic since they definitely had a fire extinguisher and everything on the truck.

  18. I think that's the most reasonable approach. The cargo is just stuff and there is ZERO reason for anyone trying to get into the cab of the truck.

  19. Trailers have padlocks holding the doors shut, the mob was trying to get in the cab to get the keys to unlock the trailers.

  20. I should have taken an after it was fixed photo. Whoever did the welding did an awesome job. You can look at the welding and tell it was fixed, but when driving in or out, you can't tell at all. The thing is more sturdy than it was in the first place.

  21. I highly doubt she chose to be a single mother. Dude probably said fuck it, Iā€™ll just pay the child support

  22. I know several people who were hospitalized who had their things stolen. My stepdad's wallet was taken and they used his credit cards and my elderly neighbor was the most absurd - they stole her dentures!

  23. I've tried to convince my dad to try the new wave of food trucks, but he has worked construction since he was 16 (65 now), and he does not trust food trucks lol

  24. Hah, that'll do it to you. Man I had some fucked up toilet experiences when I worked construction. Sometimes I walked outta the port-a-potty feeling like I got buttraped.

  25. But when ICE vehicles are eventually banned and you have no other option what would you do for long range travel?

  26. I know a lot of folks in the trucking industry. Provided with the right infrastructure at truck stops/shipping hubs, trucking could easily be done by battery electric trucks. In the US, with our legally restricted driving time and electronic logs, it means that drivers can only drive a limited number of hours per day and per week.

  27. looks like the first truck mean-mugged the guy. Stared right at him as it went by.

  28. Wtf? That line's not insulated? (Not an electrician so I so I don't know much how the infrastructure works)

  29. All of the power transmission cables are like that. They're insulated from the ground and tower by

  30. Excellent answer, but let's just say that we are talking about very weak vent pipe across the room heating solution, also power consumption would be 150W max. And we're talking about a house of a size of small kithen and lounge, sleeping area

  31. I love how they reduced it down when it appears that both sides are the same size

  32. PVC is so expensive nowadays, gotta go with the smaller pipe to keep it in the budget .

  33. I'm not looking forward to this graph but for microplastics.

  34. I'd bet it looks the same but says "Generation Z" where "Generation X" is on this graph.

  35. Wow this happened right down the street from me! Jacksonville FL, southside blvd
