1. idk about undergrad research but SBU physics is fucking cracked. You could definitely walk into office hours and have a convo:

  2. If you can afford it try too, but honestly electrical engineering is very solid and might be better than cs for jobs right now. I would try to do EE with a cs minor

  3. The electrical engineering related clubs are cooler too. Big respect for ppl doing Electrical Engineering. If you want to do a bit more programming and what not, just do a minor in CS or do double major in Computer Engineering. You can always get into doing embedded stuff which is highly electrical engineering related.

  4. There should be less benefit in enrollment time for “special” groups like honors college

  5. Early registration is the only real benefit of being in honors college. Its reasonable for them to have early enrollment time. But i would like to see honors college and the cs honors be more rigorous since theyre practically just GPA boosters and early registration thingys at the moment.

  6. oh damn do you mind telling me why you regret it? i really love stony but man its so far 😭

  7. There are more research opportunities here than at CCNY in CS if that is something that you are interested in. Stony Brook CS does a lot of research. The job fairs here have been bleak compared to pre-layoffs. Apparently there used to be companies like Apple, Bloomberg, Amazon, etc... coming to campus. Now there are one or two large companies at best. The industry is not looking to sexy rn and stony brook isn't a target school at top companies. These companies do come by sometimes at clubs but the scale is nowhere near what it was before. Same goes with CUNY schools although they have programs like Break Thru Tech and city agency related programs. If your motivation to do CS is to make decent salary, I would check out some of the majors that CUNY excels at like Accounting. If you are certain of the CS route, go for a better school that has companies coming by.

  8. I would like to see SBU being more welcoming to the use of bikes, scooters, and skateboards. Currently if you live on campus, you must store your bike outside which fucks up the mechanical bits and makes it easy to steal. We need larger and more bike sheds like the ones found at harvard:

  9. I think we should should decarbonize as a priority. EV’s and zero carbon energy. It would have a much bigger effect.

  10. I think everyone would agree that decarbonizing is a good thing but getting there is tricky. There are a lot of hurdles with things like upfront costs, labor, and the needs of facilities like the hospital, chemistry building, and life science building. These buildings use a shit ton of energy and the reliability of their energy source is extremely important for their labs. For some experiments, you can't have down time or else someone's life work might be destroyed. Not sure if all the up front costs would be worth it to achieve carbon zero with the current state of the university.

  11. Hello there young person. Idk anything about Success Academy. But I will give you my two cents on Brooklyn tech and some insight as a former student from goldstein.

  12. Everything past the two semester LANG sequence was cut in 2018. The BA major was cut around 2008/2009 and the what was left after that past the LANG sequence was cut in 2018. In the span of about ten years German went from an entire department offering a doctorate program, a BA, a minor, and a 7th-12th grade teaching certification to a single adjunct teaching the LANG sequence. Nassau and Suffolk only have the two semester intro sequence and both community college's have been having problems with being able to run the second semester of German for several years now due to low enrollment. For the past couple years the third semester of German, German 211 (with limited enrollment) has been running in the fall semester.

  13. Even these days all the 'marbles' on track after a race are insane, it's not that visible but it pretty much looks the same as in your image.

  14. They have a lot of minerals so u get big and strong but it makes it taste weird and it accumulates in humidifiers, kettles, and steamers

  15. That's an installation at Stony Brook University on the front. May be useful info

  16. 2018 was one of the most brutal wake-up calls ever. McLaren truly believed they had the best chassis on the grid in 2017, then they went up against Red Bull with the same engine and demolished.

  17. I’ve heard that sentiment before and just to play devils advocate here is my stance.

  18. Aldo isn't a lot older but the man has a lot of mileage on him and had a leg injury going into the Max fight. I do think that Alex is the goat featherweight tho.

  19. I feel like 17-18 is my limit while still getting A's. That being said, for your first semester I recommend taking 16 credits. This gives you room if you wind up needing to adjust to college life. After that, push hard and go for 17-18 from second semester freshmen year on!

  20. I did this for my first couple semesters now I'm graduating too fast lol. Time flies

  21. Always feel for the younger up and comers when they recycle a vet. Daniel's likeable, but if the car is q1 bound anyway, why not give a new kid a shot...it's the farm team.

  22. They're preparing for the team to be sold so having someone like Daniel makes the team more valuable short term

  23. there was like 1 rumor about that then marko shot it down like a week later.

  24. That's a common thing to say to negotiate a better price. Alphatauri is obviously not a brand that will be around for a long time so getting its value up for a potential sale is a must.

  25. Not at all. Tho I would say avoid Yan Yu at all costs for ams310. Horrendous, practically said she made midterm 2 and final "much, much harder" because kids did well in midterm 1.

  26. I don't think yan yu is horrendous for 310 but her 310 class does get heavy at the end. A big plus about Yan Yu are her recorded lectures, they are always good quality. Her 210 is perfectly paced tho.

  27. When I was a freshie, I was enrolled into courses automatically. Ur admission counselor will respond dw.

  28. Fr it happened almost a year ago. And it was the professor that made it a really big deal not the student. Shes living rent free in his head

  29. Commenting to say you weren't the only one experiencing this, and hopefully boost visibility for those seeking a solution. Searching "Lock Screen" in settings has the correct pathway severally results down, while the top result (titled "Lock Screen") does not have the setting.

  30. Thank you for the precise instructions, kind darwintan. The size 40 font each time I unlocked my phone after the update was so damn annoying. It is the stupidest default setting I've ever seen on a phone.

  31. Get a water cooling system in the pc if you care that much about heat

  32. connect the tubing directly to the bathroom faucet and let the water drain outside for maximum effect or reuse for making tea if you are feeling environmentally friendly. May cause mineral build up.

  33. I hope you asked for permission to take the pictures.
