1. For the most lucrative tried and true white collar professions in this country (big law, MBB consulting, IB at a BB and all of its exit options, quant, unicorn tech, etc) I think it’s a fair statement.

  2. Is prestigious school a requirement here? Cus I'll prolly be going to a T100 school. Where can I get opportunities to build my experience in this field for my resume (considering I'm a CS freshman)?

  3. If you don’t go to a prestigious school you’re fine if you’re just starting your college career (which applies to you). In this order of importance Id say

  4. The only two teams that I truly feel like have our number are the Nuggets and to a lesser extent the Kings. That’s not bad, especially for a team with a bottom 3 coach.

  5. I would feel much better about our chances if Vando was healthy and we had a physical backup center that we could throw at Jokic so that AD could matchup against smaller dudes on the team (Ala the bubble run)…. But unfortunately, we got neither

  6. When I made this comment, pretty much every remark under this post was taking the tweet literally…..

  7. That’s such a bullshit narrative when when other teams have almost equal post shots but no where near the FT numbers the lakers do.

  8. They lead the FT differential category because they feast on the inside (bron and AD being their primary sources of scoring) + they have no perimeter defense (Dlo and AR are cones) and have AD camping the paint which means less drives/inside shots taken against them. Near Every perimeter shot taken against the lakers is a high quality look.

  9. I would rather work at McDonald’s and get paid minimum wage then spend all day working and get absolutely nothing. You don’t need experience to land a decent internship. The reason why it’s easy to land a unpaid internship is because NOBODY wants a unpaid internship 🤣

  10. You’re not making money spending a summer working on personal projects and leetcoding either though… if the ultimate goal is to secure a solid job leaving school, an unpaid internship is going to be much more conducive towards success than most Of your other options for a down semester

  11. I've seen two of my buddies enter the quant world through very different paths:

  12. Yeah, FAANG to Quant dev to finding a way to legitimately generate alpha as a QD or internally move to a QR role is probably the most school agnostic road to becoming a quant.

  13. If you are as competent as your stats show, then prove yourself at your state school and aim for graduate studies at a more prestigious one.

  14. And if they get rejected from those caliber of schools again? Back at square one.

  15. Point being missed. You don’t have to have been hopping for years to be a net positive on the floor at the casual pickup level. Committing to Hustle plays and being able to make an open standing layup should be more than enough to qualify as such

  16. Considering how Harvard treats grads vs. undergrad, I’m sticking with Princeton and getting that HYP feeder ticket (+ the best undergrad education in the US) into H or Y for law school.

  17. Harvard/Yale has way more grade inflation present than Princeton…. And LSAC will give you a 4.3 for every A+ on your college transcript when calculating your gpa for law school admissions, a grade distinction only Harvard awards out of those three if I’m not mistaken…. That’s such a silly policy I know, but it is such a boon to have as a pre law student.

  18. Yeah, I talked to people at Princeton about this pretty in-depth when I visited and my main conclusion was that I would feel pretty stupid if I missed out on great undergrad education only to not go to law school later because idk if I really want to do law. I also met several seniors going to HYS law schools who got into 2/3 and said they wouldn't change their undergrad decisions. They said Princeton's two biggest law school feeders were H and Y, and Yale Law gives a preference to HYP kids apparently? There's also an official notice on your transcripts about Princeton's prior grade deflation so idk if that makes sure schools take it into context or what.

  19. Obviously Princeton grads will still be disproportionately represented at the big three, it’s arguably the best undergraduate institution in the country with an incredibly brilliant cohort. My only point was just that it is objectively harder to get into HYS from Princeton than it is at H just because of the ridiculous emphasis law school admissions put on gpa devoid of any context and the fact that you can earn A+’s at H but not at Princeton. But the cream always rises to the top, and a legitimate argument can still be made for choosing P over H even as a pre law Fs… typically those reasons don’t relate to maximizing one’s chances at landing HYS, But they do exist nonetheless. The biggest reasoning being what you stated (not committed to pre law)

  20. 2 things can be and are true at once:

  21. Yup. For CS, you’d be silly to buy into the northeastern hate on this sub. Well represented in FAANG/big tech (

  22. You’re cookin rn. The amount of people on reddit that call grade deflating unis phenomenal for pre med is too damn high.

  23. Unpopular take maybe?… if you’re going to do an EMBA, do it from a M7 school, T10 “worst” case scenario

  24. Depends on what the tuition difference will be. An M7 EMBA is a very very pricy degree… especially for someone that isn’t looking to change employers and is still paying off their undergrad debt. It’ll likely run OP 200k+ in total tuition, not including all of the travel and lodging fees. Far from a trivial amount for most. And unlike full time mbas, financial aid/merit schollies aren’t typically available for even the most impressive members of a M7 EMBA class. Those programs are honestly play grounds for the upper working class or for those that are being fully funded by their employer. Neither of which seem To apply to OP. A Happy medium could be a T50ish part time/online/e mba that still has some level of national reputation but won’t burry OP in debt

  25. FAANG was never about share price or technical prowess. It was an acronym for the highest paying companies at the time it was coined. Netflix still pays incredibly well. (though I'm starting to think we should add Grammarly to the list lol)

  26. Really? I thought it was a term coined by Jim Cramer that referred to tech stock that was preforming well.

  27. If your goal is to transfer into Umich LSA, i doubt it will hurt you to go to msu first. However, Why you’d want to do that I’m not entirely sure….

  28. Still were unable to win one singular playoff game during that era.... Detroit deserves better

  29. Above 300k after graduation sounds total BS to me. I've had many friends go to even Ivy who've not received such an offer with 4 YOE and at demanding roles. Maybe I'm a bit too skeptical but with how many roles I've applied in LinkedIn it's almost always for higher level roles with many years of experience.

  30. Those numbers are real for top band buy side quant gigs (Jane street, HRT etc). There are many more Ivy League students than there are positions at these firms. Much easier to get big tech, and big tech is already pretty hard to get into. Someone in quant responded under this post confirming his employer pays over 300k for new grads. You can ask him questions directly if you’re still suspicious about this claim.

  31. Extremely company dependent. At my firm it can go as high as 375k for a new grad, at FAANG it is around 180-200k, at most mid tier places it will be barely above 100k, and in most low tier places it can be around 60-90k especially in low cost of living cities. Unless the student is a superstar I wouldn’t count on getting into a top tier company straight out of a MS program especially if it’s a mediocre MS program.

  32. You must be in quant right? Any advice for breaking in? Specifically for QD roles. I’ve heard it’s pretty much impossible breaking in straight out of school unless you’ve already done a quant internship. Would you co-sign that statement? Appreciate it

  33. There’s no way he’s brought back to coach another season…. Right?

  34. He’s literally rapping “ H I J K M N O, I don’t know L” ass bars the whole thing. Switching dimensions like it’s Rick and Morty?? Bruh not even big Sean would say that in 2024. There’s only two good songs on that whole project

  35. Even logic hasn’t pulled out a Rick and Morty bar since Supermarket I don’t think…. lol.

  36. Didn’t even get hit hard, his eye is injured and he’s not wearing goggles. Big men get hit in the face constantly, if it’s bothering him that much he needs to wear a mask or goggles

  37. To many in the sports world there's a difference between "best" and "greatest" you can be the best player but to be the greatest you need that championship hardware. maybe I'm looking into what Stewie was saying too much but I kinda felt like that's what she was getting at. I don't necessarily agree with it but I also don't think she was hating, just a mentality that alot of professional athletes have.

  38. Stewart said she wouldn’t be considered one of the college greats if she didn’t win a ring, not that she wouldn’t be considered the greatest. That’s a pretty silly claim to make about the all time leading scorer who has back to back finals appearances at a not stacked program and has lead her league in scoring AND assists numerous times.

  39. I'll tell you one thing, and I'm not ashamed to say it. My estimation of Dan as a media critiquer, just fucking plummeted.

  40. Historically, Aba always said the DGG Orbit is nothing more than a glorified group of chat Andys.

  41. They match up the worse against the lakers out of any team in the western conference that’s set to make the post season. It’s not out of the realm of possibility
