I needed this today

  1. Honestly that's the part of the story that still haunts me 20+ years after I read it. I found it really disturbing too.

  2. Give yourself more time. Mine came back around 15 months.

  3. Exactly the same for me. I actually think I'm MORE creative now because he's a source of inspiration!

  4. Maybe I’m old school but I don’t understand how he thinks he has the right to completely dictate baby’s name, and let his father do the same, when he won’t even give you his name???

  5. This is what I'm stuck on too. Sorry, the minimum requirement for being forced into my in-laws' cultish naming practices is actually being married to their son.

  6. Just North America and Europe for me, but my son has 4! *North America *Europe *Asia *Africa

  7. My almost 32 yo autistic son still believes in Santa Claus. When he turned 21 he wrote a letter to Santa thanking him for the wonderful gifts he had received because he was a man now and adults don't receive Santa gifts. His innocence and naivete are our family treasures.

  8. This made me tear up! What a sweet young man ❤️

  9. You've gotten good advice here, but why are you dating a 40 year old if you want biological kids and no stepkids?

  10. I could have written this post before I had my son! Everything you read online makes parenting sound so awful and you're left confused about why anyone does it in the first place.

  11. I found my mum in bed. Medically, I'm trained... I've done a lot of code blues, I've broken a lot of ribs. It's the job, you do it, it happens, and if you do everything you can then you can walk away with that morsel of comfort regardless the outcome.

  12. I'm so sorry you went through that, but how amazing that you saved her and they were able to revive her!!

  13. For goodness sakes, you just had a baby with a horrible traumatic birth.

  14. This. Anyone who expects her to care about anything other than her brand new baby and physical recovery right now straight-up doesn't love or care about her. Her husband is a piece of work.

  15. This reminds me of a few years back when I saw an ancient Filipino man beating the s*** out of a cart at Superstore to get his $1 coin back instead of just going and plugging it back into the rest of the carts so that the dollar would pop back out into his hand.

  16. He's the kind of Christian the world needs more of!!

  17. I hear you too. Canada needs to ironclad codify the things like this before it's too late.

  18. It's my understanding that in Canada's case it's better not to have a specific law codifying abortion, because it's just considered to be part of our right to universal health care-- we have a right to abortions the same way we all have a right to get our tonsils out, for example.

  19. This is why paternity tests should be mandatory before leaving the hospital and/or before signing the birth certificate.

  20. A policy like that would get women and infants murdered. Make them available at birth, sure. But mandatory is a terrible idea for women who might not be safe with their partners.

  21. 1 - Agreed, but there's a huge difference between standard and mandatory.

  22. As someone who wishes she was raised un a bilingual household, I beg you to speak Chinese to your baby. I have friends whose parents spoke other native languages (Chinese and Japanese) but only spoke English with their kids. The kids grew up speaking English (which they would have spoken and learned anyway) but not their parents' native languages. It's a blessing to have your Chinese speaking dad watch your kiddo - you have nothing to worry about re: English acquisition.

  23. Yup, this happened to my husband. His parents spoke several languages to each other, but only spoke English to him. As an adult he only speaks English.

  24. Thank you for posting this, Jina is a distant relative and my family have been following the case. I doubt it will ever be solved but I'm glad they've finally found her.

  25. Of course! I live in this climate too, which is what sparked the question-- winters are so harsh and uncomfortable here even with modern insulation, furnace-heated homes, etc. that I couldn't picture how it would be possible to survive in any kind of comfort without those things.

  26. Today I’m depressed. Nine weeks pregnant, my tailbone is aching for some reason, I’m hungry but nothing sounds good to eat, I have to drive to work today and gas is ridiculous, the weather is drowsy.

  27. Congrats!! I also had random tailbone pain when I was pregnant-- it goes away once baby is out!

  28. Hawaii?? I feel like you could make that as kid-friendly / unfriendly as you like, depending on where you choose to stay!

  29. I can see both sides of this. When my SIL became a mom she wanted to do Mother's Day with just her kids and husband, and celebrate with her own mother the following weekend. Totally fine and reasonable, except she expected the rest of the family to postpone Mother's Day too (i.e., have her own mother spend Mother's Day alone). My husband and I were childless at the time and my own mother lived on the other side of the country, so we really wanted to spend the day with his mom. SIL was a brat about it and it just struck me as really princessy and entitled. We ended up ignoring her and taking his mom to lunch every year on the day anyway 😂

  30. Just skimmed your post history, you're completely justified in not wanting to schlep six hours with a toddler for a visit you're almost certainly not going to enjoy.

  31. My jaw dropped reading this. You're a way better daughter than they deserve, and you're doing the right thing!!
