1. Registration was 40 for the year. The 760 was property tax for owning the truck for one year. We have to pay that yearly for any vehicle with a license plate. My other car was 1475 last year for property tax and registration.

  2. They charge a yearly property tax on cars? That seems crazy to me, I always assumed it was just real estate everywhere.

  3. Yup totally right, and I don’t think you can get it without a license either. Either way, no matter how broke you are, being in an accident without insurance will make you 10x more broke than paying a premium would.

  4. This isn’t really true for poor people though as a lot of them are more or less judgement proof. Driving without a license/insurance should really be treated more seriously, but it is usually just a relatively small fine.

  5. It is a private school with a focus on secular education, so they sorta chose this.

  6. Yes. That is how all credit card rewards work. You literally get money because of poor or financially illiterate people who don't or can't pay off the balance. That group of people exceeds those who do pay it all off for the free money. If this was not the case they wouldn't exist.

  7. I see different sites say it is somewhere between 49-61% of people in the U.S. that have credit card debt… that is astounding.

  8. It is not that crazy that they are generated with a black box ML model that nobody has a complete understanding of. I can’t imagine this being approved by reviewers if it was just a straightforward mapping of keywords to emojis.

  9. Smoking with someone under 18 is a different thing, but 20 is an adult.

  10. If a government deliberately kills innocent people in an air bombing or artillery campaign to meet political goals, can that government be classified as a terrorist organisation?

  11. A regime intentionally killing civilians falls under war crimes.

  12. I love when someone asks me what is my most favourite strain. Like dude, I buy weed from a shady dude in dark alley between apartment buildings. How the fuck should I know, I am happy when the stuff I buy is even weed in the first place.

  13. Weed is weed a the end of the day, but it is good to find multiple plugs if you can so you have a backup and get the best options. If you live near a medium sized city, there are plenty of dealers that will vacuum seal your bags and print labels for the strain names (even if they are more or less made up).

  14. the thc never "fully converts" all cannabis has a very low amount of delta 9 thc naturally, anywhere from 0.1 to around 3 percent. most of it falling well under 3 percent (all rough estimates). the bulk of all thc within cannabis is thc-a which is the precursor to delta 9 thc. in order to convert it, you must decarboxylate it (smoke it, vape it, cook it) lots of cannabis flower is already technically legal under the farm bill, stating that any product with less than 0.3 percent delta 9 thc is legal and a "hemp" product.

  15. By the time typically grown cannabis has cured and made it to the shelves, it is usually closer to 1-2% THC. It is almost impossible to grow flower with 20+% THCa and make it stay at .3% THC for a considerable period of time.

  16. so long as the flower doesn't sit around for a long time and the tests are done quickly all flower will be almost completely thc-a. flower sold as thc-a is tested at the time of harvest before any degradation occurs. i've also seen plenty of dispensary coas of flower with legal levels of thc. it all depends on when the tests are done, if the tests are done after drying and months of curing, then of course you'll see a higher delta 9 percentage like 1 or 2 percent but it really takes quite a while for the thca to degrade.

  17. Yeah, this is true, and the test results are often legit because they are done early, but by the time it is on its store shelf in your illegal state, it is often no longer testing as hemp.

  18. Science reporting in journalism is abysmal. Some things can be easily fact checked. Something like this might require a deeper verification (such as a phd cancer biologist as yourself). I can see the latter one being tougher for the media honestly; where are they going to find niche scientists for every report that comes out?

  19. You don’t just need a team with some scientists, you need opinions from industry professionals that research in that specific niche field. For a half-decent cancer researcher to read and comment on the study, you are probably looking at like $2k, and you really need multiple opinions, and this is just a small piece.

  20. Why would a person in France be bullied for wearing Western clothing?

  21. France has a sizable population of extremist Muslims who often engage in activities like this against other Muslims. Obviously many Muslim people are moderate, but these things happen enough in France to not be surprising. This is largely a result of self-segregated communities in France. In the U.S., Muslim immigrants tend to be better integrated with the local culture as they are less concentrated (outside of some areas like Minneapolis).

  22. I’ll be paying attention, I also have massive lifestyle creep.

  23. Lifestyle creep is a silly concept to be worried about; you don’t want to drastically increase your expenses when you make more money, but you should treat yourself a bit (unless your #1 goal is to never work again).

  24. You’ve literally described what lifestyle creep is. I hope you can see how it’s an easy trap to fall into.

  25. On this sub it’s usually like “We make $250k household income and spend $4k a month. Can we afford to buy a new Camry since ours is 25 years old?” I get the concept of being conservative with your money, but I see more people on this sub who are denying themselves things they want and can easily afford for no good reason.

  26. I think they’re implying (in a not so tasteful way) that this gives people plausible deniability if a genuine nude leaks to say that it was made by AI instead. How this solves the problem of the nude image being out there I don’t know.

  27. I think this really is a problem that fixes itself. If there is no ability to distinguish between real and fake photos, and it can be done to any person of any gender, then it becomes less impactful. If someone does it to you, it’s easy to do back.

  28. You probably legally owe this, but anyone going to bat for the insurance company is a bitch. They made a mistake and caused an annoyance to you. Fuck ‘em, but you still probably have to pay.

  29. Retiring in the Bay Area or NYC is not something that needs to be accesible to everyone. If they have a $2M+ net worth now, they could probably retire immediately in Ohio and not be worried about money at all.

  30. If your making nearly a million dollars before taxes and having problems it's your spending and your priorities with money causing that.

  31. This article is a ridiculous read and a total waste of time. They’re saving like $20k a month, living within their means, and have like $1.5M in investments. It’s more a story about a couple squabbling over the best way to utilize all their big bags of money.

  32. It’s hard to classify it as a benefit when it is legally mandated though.

  33. Mm. I'm not sure if relying on AI to determine who lives and who dies is the best strategy.

  34. Yeah, trusting an AI model to determine if somebody is showing you a valid drivers license is still pretty iffy for important usecases. It is certainly not sufficient to be a primary input for war.

  35. Reading the headline, I was kinda expecting ting that the killer was never a suspect. Nope.

  36. This isn’t enough to get a conviction on its own. A murder trial requires more than “we’re pretty sure he did it”.

  37. Take the bus, bring your laptop, and do work on the bus. Check out the website to make sure you are looking at the best route you could take, and whether there is a way that the maps aren’t showing.

  38. that is, if the bus has wifi. TMK the only routes that have on-board wifi are the 801 and the 803

  39. If you plan for it, there is a lot of work you can do without WiFi in most degree programs, especially if you have a phone to google things on. If you absolutely need to be connected, it is usually like $10-20 extra a month for a mobile hotspot from your phone, which is like one Uber one way.

  40. Switzerland is a tourist destination, of course, but that's not who this ruse is aimed at. This ploy is for people passing through who want to bypass highways by using regional roads

  41. Why would people take a local road over a highway? At least in the U.S. highways are like 70 mph (120kmph) and local roads are 40-50mph at most (but still 2-3 lanes each way unless you are in a rural area or a neighborhood. People would only take the local road if there was a bad accident and the regular road is closed.

  42. If it was thca not THC, I'd hire a lawyer and make the state prove it to be marijuana not hemp.

  43. THCa flower will test positive for THC in an illegal quantity around 95% of the time. They measure way earlier than they should to label it that way, but by the time you have it, it is at least 2-5% THC which is enough to be illegal.

  44. How is Best Buy a dying company?? Do you just assume this because it's a brick and mortar chain, or do you actually follow earnings? Best Buy is a very cash rich and stable retail chain.

  45. Yeah, Best Buy is a major competitor to Amazon’s online electronics retail, especially when it comes to products like TVs where customers (especially older ones) want to see things in person to understand everything.

  46. Dude. A newly minted STEM PhD can go into industry and make six figures immediately... or stick around in academia and probably end up either as perpetual post-doc or (even fucking worse) stuck as adjunct teaching faculty.

  47. It depends on what you want to do, but you can get paid $300-400k with a CS PHD at big tech.

  48. You realize you’re asking on a game that’s cycle has ended? Nothing will change for this game.

  49. There wouldn’t be cutting in front of people if everyone was actually zipper merging

  50. Everybody knows how to use a zipper merge, but it is individually faster to cut around the line or force the next car to wait, so a lot of people do it. Traffic patterns cannot rely on people to do the right thing, and zipper merges generally place far too much trust in society.

  51. Perhaps rural Pennsylvanians are more willing to follow the law, but I have never seen a busy zipper merge where people do not swerve around each other and try to play chicken with the car whose turn it is to merge. People constantly zip around the trucks, or anyone who isn’t 6inches from the car in front of them, and it creates unsafe traffic patterns. I spend like 5 min every day going to work in a merge line and nobody follows the rules making it much more unsafe than necessary.

  52. This question will occasionally come up in interviews but tbh it is rarely asked by the better companies in my experience. It is also Very very easy to lie to this question anyway / come up with something very generic

  53. Yeah, asking someone how they keep up with new tech is a fair question. Asking someone how they keep up with new tech outside of work is bullshit.
