Very niche but Within Temptation, a Dutch symphonic metal band. I still love their early albums but I lost interest when they released The Unforgiving. It's just so different, the follow up albums as well, and not my taste. Although I understand that bands evolve and can't do the same music for their entire career.
I highly recommend His and Her Circumstances as well. It’s one of my all time favorite. It starts off a little lighthearted and goofy but progressively more serious and slightly darker.
The genre where you may want to find similar works is called josei. It’s like shoujo but more mature and leaning towards drama and slice of life type of themes.

Destroying the characters of Liz and Lucky. Having Lucky cheat on Liz with Sarah and then Maxie. Having them finally reunited and then Liz cheats with Nikolas. I haven't watched faithfully since they destroyed them. I tune in from time to time when JJ is back but besides that, it killed the show for me.
