So when your friend said something like “ the cover charge is not even that much “, it’s like ok but if you go to a concert or even a bar , it’s never just that. You get thirsty you need to be able to afford drinks, you get hungry and you need to afford food and it’s even more embarrassing when you go out with someone with the intention of trying not to go overboard spending on certain things and then once you’re out already people try to push you towards spending money on other stuff and then you say “ no I don’t have it “ and and then the person says “ wow you really can’t afford _______?”, . So yea don’t even make it a point to mention not being able to afford it , just say no . Work on your boundaries because people be trying to lowkey embarrass you sometimes and it’s annoying. I had a friend that back in the days we had a falling out for years because she said she felt like I was “using her” because she had to pay for me when we went out all the time and I would always tell her “ no , I don’t want to go and can’t really afford it right now “ but she would ALWAYS be pushy and insist and then get mad at me because I couldn’t afford something. I asked her “how in the world am I using you? if I always say NO and you always push me.”
