I don't think that you are the ahole but at the same time what you did is not completely ok.Idk what your son is going through but as a teen myself I can tell you that some days we just feel like crap for no particular reason and school can be the thing that breaks us.Also socializing can be extremely hard if you are not ok mentally (but in your son's case I think therapy is necessary).Also there's nothing wrong with missing a day of school nothing really happens and if it does, it's just one day, he ll be able to recover.Hope this helped and I would honestly suggest that you try to talk with him again and if he refuses or gets angry it means that there's something wrong and he probably needs therapy
