Hey y’all! I have been pulled over by police officers on four separate occasions, and each time they’ve been very suspicious of me because of my Autistic mannerisms. Even being hostile at times. I’m wondering, is this just because police in Florida are terrible, or is this a common Autism thing?

I was wondering...
No, I'm not your emotional Tampon.
Thats is correct. You ar ejust a sick perv preying on vulnerable people.
This is unnecessary and uncivil.
You don't protect us so will have to do it myself.
Maybe autistic people (like me) could carry some kind of police approved ID card that explains autism and that we are not deranged!
I have an "auti-pas"a plastic card from the dutch auti society stating I really have autism and some general instructions about the most common symptoms. I have made a plastified bit of paper with more personal specific instructions to go with it. This was after the incident described in this thread.
Yeah. I'm looking into that, I'm near Utrecht, I've had incidents like OP described, how long did it take to get the pass?
euh.. it was at the star of the corona period. A few weeks i think
HEy! great going! You are doing good for all of us! *cheers you on*
No, you/we can be abit mindfull about the people around us and behave. Most of the time. We are still people. And still can act like jerks.
yes
uhm.yeah. It is sad and reality. The Swedish study, right? But it is on average and increasing. It also really helps to be serious about treating depression.
life is wgat happens while you are making plans. they say.
Not just online
Why do you ask? What are you testing?
What would you like me to tell you?
I recently cut my family off for 2nd time. This time it feels permanent. Contact is mutually excruciating and bad for all our wellbeings.
Yeah, it feels to me all the attention is on autist kids because us oldies and late diagnosed "just are list and can't be helped anymore". Something like that.
Also us oldies (proper oldies, I'm 66) have made our lives to suit us. We (yeah I'm generalising so as not to type "some of us" each time!) have retired, we're not at school/college/university, we're not dating/marrying/in relationships. We've learned what works for sensory issues. So what would we need help for/with?
Well.. I still often have troubles where I could use a hand with. This week I was refused coaching every now and then, as mental fysiotherapy for dealing with this NT world. No funding.
Have been. But it caught up with me. Frequency of burn outs and depressions made me apply for disability benefits instead.
Same situation here. I know the pain. Stay strong, we did what was right for our health.
Yet..I have a stable relationship. I have friends and a stable roof. Finances are ok. I AM lucky. Even if I do not see my family anymore. Oh I am nearing 50. Between 18 and say 35 i sort of managed to keep jobs more than a year. Intermitted burn outs. Quickly switched to max 32 hrs a week. Been self employed for 4 years (working about 3 days a week, financially feasible but a hell of travel and insecuriry stress.
Perhaps people misinterpret your first line re the down votes? I have no idea what you are saying there, but it seems very negative to the commenters but even with that I’m clueless as to the meaning.
aaahhh thanks for the close reading. It was because there was one VERY suspicious unwholesome reaction from a guy in the thread. It really looked like someone preying on us. He removed his reaction after I pointed it out.
Please be VERY critical about any people approaching you based on this thread?
Why the downvotes? Just sharing my experience.
I feel totally not weird.I feel very clearly angry. I refuse. If the company puts much stock in these teenage magazine nonsense quizzes, I don't want to work there.

Aah now I understand. Looks a bit like my husband but its not him.
Ok. This is a reddit for autist people. Be clear. What is the question/issue?
I don't know what country you are in.
Hey ! Thanks! You to! Cool.
I gues it can be rude or a fun joke depending how it is used.
I’ve come across large well organized and reputable mental health centers (like CBT for anxiety and stuff) that in their intake interview explicitly refuse to see autistic people coming there for anxiety therapy. They don’t give an outright offensive reason like yours but they just claim they don’t know how to treat autistic patients (they do, it’s really not that different). They just assume if you’re autistic you must automatically be impossible to help and also they assume the reason you’re coming there is to treat your autism (it isn’t)
I have had same experience (for depression). Exact same reason given. They wanted to do an intake first and decide based on that.
Maybe there is an organisation for disability rights in your country where you can report this first. Maybe they can help you find the best channels.
"This item isn't available in your country" :(
What country are you in? I will ask them.
What is your country? I will send them a message saying it is wanted there. It is pretty new, so I gues they first rolled out nationally.
I recognise some. Me trying harder and it not working. Maybe try less hard? letting it flow.
It's always been controversial but my approach for my autistic friends and how I want to be treated myself too is to treat it with understanding. I apologize for my meltdowns, and I forgive others for their meltdowns or other episodes because they can't control it. If there is anything that might lead to bad feelings between any party then we talk it out civilly.
nice! I hope the NT's will get into this too.
It can happen fast. I suggest buying a noise cancelling headset, it's honestly a life changer. Personally I use Sony WH1000XM4 at home and the WF(earbuds) to put in my pocket for whenever. If you are sensitive to light, wear sunglasses whereever you want, learn not to care what others think. I don't wear sunglasses but I always use a yellow filter for my screens, as the white blue light is far too bright most the time.
yeah! I got the MX 3000!
Having an art education and no perspective to a paid job is nothing specially autistic. I am sorry. This is the sane for neurotypical art students. We can't blame everything on neurodivergence.
lmao this is very attacking, see my other comments on this topic. I'm not against the workplace, I just don't like how the workplace is often against neurodivergent people. I havent been in a job because I have been suicidal 99% of the time, coming to terms with how I am neurodivergent, and multiple other traumatic incidents, not even including my academia.
I congratulate you for being able to laugh about it! Good for you!
